A bridge that reaches nearly 500 meters or 1,640 feet has just opened near the city of Zermatt, Switzerland. This bridge is touted as the longest pedestrian bridge in the world.
Reporting from the BBC, this bridge replaces the previous bridge that has been damaged by stone collapse. The bridge, named Europabruecke (European Bridge), hangs 85 meters above the Grabengufer gorge.

Zermatt Tourism Board claims, this bridge as the longest in the world, rival a bridge that is 405 meters in Reutte, Austria. However, the Reutte bridge hangs over 110 meters above the ground.

The new bridge, whose cord weighs about eight tons, is equipped with a system to prevent it from swaying. You can try this bridge on a two-day hiking route between Zermatt and Grachen in southern Switzerland, interspersed with the breathtaking scenery of Mount Matterhorn.
