Fort Mountain State Park Chatsworth, Georgia - Moon-Eyed People and Allegewi Legends

in travel •  8 years ago

This is a very mysterious site in Northern Georgia. This area was a site for early American Indians but little is known about them. There are pits dug around the site and small stone walls. There is a local legend of the "moon-eyed" people and the Allegewi that came hundreds of years ago.

There is a small stone tower at the top of the mountain. When we visited in 2009, the tower was closed to go up on it. There was also a beautiful scenic lookout deck.

This site is a hiking site and no bathrooms when you go up. There are stairs and a boardwalk to get to the lookout. So bring comfortable shoes and water with you if you plan to visit.
