MY TRIP TO ITALY. VENICE.

When we arrived to Venice it was already late in the evening, we went to the waterfront and this beauty so impressed me that I sat on the stone steps and cried. It was amazing and…I can`t find the words.

In Venice we lived in a wonderful apartment, which is located near the main street of Venice, the Grand Canal. 

A little remark.
Grand Canal runs through the city, repeating inverted S. The channel length is 3800 meters, width - from 30 to 70 meters, depth - about 5 meters. The waterfront of canal are replaced by the facades of the houses overlooking the canal. These houses are usually built on stilts, they  have two entrances  - on land and on water.

Grand Canal - the concentration of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Venetians call it "Channel-palace" (Italian Canalazzo.). On the banks of the canal are more than 100 palaces, among them: Ca 'Rezzonico, Ca' d'Oro, Ca 'Foscari, Palazzo Barbarigo, and many others. And they are awesome and stunning!

The basic movement is concentrated along the canal, there are only four bridges: Rialto bridge, the Academy Bridge, Scalzi bridge and the bridge of the Constitution. Through the channel you can move by gondola or vaporetto, or tragetto, the alternative of bridges crossing the channel.

When we arrived in Venice, time was getting late, and restaurants in Italy do not work at night, and we wanted so much to eat! Dear owner of our apartment showed us this place, which is open until late, it is made especially for tourists. This pizzeria is located in a small cozy patio and there was a very tasty pizza and wine. We ate and went to rest. It was a luxurious apartment with a large bedroom, a kitchen and a large living room and a wonderful balcony overlooking the courtyard. There were a lot of flowers on the balcony and strawberries.

In the morning, we went to explore Venice. We did not have any specific plan, we just walked. Our only plan was to visit the Lido island, because there was the International Art Exhibition that we really wanted to see. Lido is just 20 minutes' travel by motorboat from Venice.

 In the Middle Ages Lido was known as the island of St. Nicholas. Since 1053 in the northern part stood the Benedictine Abbey, built to preserve the remains of St. Nicholas, patron saint of sailors. The island is protected by a breakwater, built in the XVIII century to protect the lagoon from the sea, which extends almost to the casino area, which was built in the 30s in the XX century. Hidden by thick trees, it is the ideal place in Venice for many cultural events and just holidays, among which the Venice Film Festival. From another side Lido is famous for its beaches.

We have not got at the Biennale since the tickets were unrealistically expensive, at least for us. But we had a great walk around the island and a tour of the exhibition, which were available to us. Lido is very quiet, green and not crowded.

Before we go to the Lido, we walked around the city, came to St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco).

 We made good friends with them, because we had a breadsticks with us :)

On the square there is the Doge's Palace and the clock tower. On this day, we walked a lot around the city, but not where the tourists usually walk. 

We were walking through little quiet, almost deserted streets. Visiting small local stores that sold paintings, Murano glass and other interesting things.

It was a wonderful, eventful day. Venice is very awesome and we had another happy day here. I will tell about it in one of my next posts.
