La Rambla, Barcelona

La Rambla is the most famous street in Barcelona, ​​especially popular among tourists.

This charming street, along with several interesting landmarks, is located 1.2 kilometers from Plaza de Catalunya and the Christopher Columbus Monument. Sometimes the name Les Rambles is also used, and the plural emphasizes that it is actually a few more connected streets.

Fountain Font de Canaletes is a cult place for tourists.

In the northern part of Ramble, there is the Font de Canaletes, a somewhat unusual design fountain. Namely, instead of the large jets of water that would flow from or spit out of it, this fountain dominates - a street lamp! The Font de Canaletes has four taps that can be freely used by walkers, while the center of the canal leaves. Except for an interesting look there is, for a fontant somewhat typical, a legend - if you're drinking from this fountain, you'll be back in Barcelona. As mentioned in the footnotes, this little fountain is traditionally a place for gathering fans of the Barcelona Football Club.Given the modest size of the fountain, it seems logical to gather in another, more spectacular place. But it is an interesting tradition that originates from the 30s of the 20th century. At that time, the fountains were in front of the sports magazine La Rambla, in front of which the fans gathered regularly during the Barcelona matches, wanting to find out the result. The reporters would print the results on the board in front of the office, and in case of a favorable outcome, there would be a big celebration around Fontana and the rest of Ramble. The tradition has been maintained to this day.

The playful mosaic of the famous Joan Miro, La Rambla is a cheerful, lively street, so somehow logically it seemed that one of the most famous city artists, Joan Miro, left in Barcelona one of his works. It is just south of La Boqueria, right next to the Liceu subway station, creating a street mosaic Pla de l'Os. This joyful work is easily recognizable by Miro's characteristic, vibrant colors.

If you continue farther south of the Canaletes fountain, you will soon reach La Boqueria, the most famous city market and one of the liveliest places in town. The market was built in 1840 on the site of the former monastery of St. Josipa, but in that area traded centuries before. It is assumed that the meat was sold there in the 13th century, and trading was later expanded. As traders began to create a huddle with the increasingly busy Rambla, it was decided to build a larger home. Boqueria is today one of the largest city markets, a picturesque place to enjoy all of your senses.Keep in mind that this market is mostly busy, largely due to the large number of tourists, so prices are often more than elsewhere.

Although Ramble traffic is permitted, it is most commonly seen as an exclusively walking zone. The reason is that the central part of the street does not stop traffic, so walkers can safely navigate all the way from the Catalan Square to the monument to Columbus. It's a life-filled area, full of kiosks, flower shops, street entertainers, restaurateurs and, above all, lots of people. For this reason, it is always emphasized that walking on the most famous street in the city will be a little more cautious because where heavy crowds are often found and pocket steelers.
