Why you need a travel Buddy? From a 'no sense direction' girl traveler Perspective

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

There was no place I explored without these guys on my featured photos. And of course my first blog should be about them because I wouldn't / couldn't have travelled without these guys. Might sound peculiar but you'll get to know more later. It may not always be a perfect attendance so we make sure to get a snap of a "wish u were here" picture ; but in our circle, meaning "suya ka ky wala ka diri! Bleh"(we know you envy us coz your not here! Bleh) photo. This serves as my tribute to them..

Introducing my travel buddies! (drum rolls)

Of course you know a lot of people but I bet only a handful of them is compatible to you. I have a lot of acquaintances especially with my line of work but can only count with my fingers those i can call real friends. I am lucky to have met Kirk, Ryan and MarkG. I am blessed to have been born with them since my buddies also include my sisters; Lang2 and Charlotte. And the rest are my cousins Jaylord, Mimi, Angel, Jake and Quini. And to think we have the same passion of travel and adventure! How cool is that? It even gets better..

Why you need a Travel Buddy you ask?

#1 ~ The most important reason is..I don't have a Sense of Direction. I would be lost without them. Need i elaborate? So to you guys who have the same problem as me, this is the ultimate solution to be on the right track.

#2 ~ Who would help you book the flight, create the itinerary, suggest good places to go, food to eat and things to do? The internet is there to help you of course but it would not be twice as fun. There is no one to share your excitement to so, your group should include a planner, a researcher, a foodie and an adrenaline rush seeker. Oh! I almost forgot another important member, the Credit Card holder to book your flights if you need air travel for no hassle bookings.

#3~ Selfies are in and monopods/selfie sticks are very useful but the pictures taken are not as picturesque comparing to those snapped by your friends. You even get free modeling lessons on how you should strike a pose if you run out of those blogger poses. You can't always find people to take those shots for you and they would not care if you look good on their snapped photos. Plus the more people who have cameras and phones the more pictures taken.

#4~ If you are an adventure seeker like us, it's really difficult to suppress your excitement, fear, happiness and all those mixed emotions you feel when you are fired up with adrenaline rush before and after jumping off the waterfall, falling from an eight story high drop zone, almost get capsized while river rafting and those other crazy things you think of doing. If you don't have a buddy with you and you share these with a random stranger, then that would be a major Awkward..

#5~ You get to spend when you travel. Now if by chance you lost your wallet, run out of cash and can't withdraw, gone over your budget or whatever that reason is that you just don't have anything to spend anymore..Who you gonna call? (and it's not GhostBusters!)

#6~ Speaking of spending, this has been proven and tested by the travels we've had. The more people you travel with, the lesser you get to spend. You will have more head counts to divide the room rent and the van, jeep, tricycle, boat or whatever contraption you guys think of riding on rent. Major savings!

#7~ Eating out and trying your current destinations' delicacy is part of the fun. When you are alone and on a tight budget, you can only buy 1 or 2, 3 at the most food to try your palate with. But when you are in a group, you get to taste more since you can order 1 of each variety and share with them. Apart from that, when was eating alone fun?

#8~ Conversations are free entertainment. We have also encountered being stranded due to bad weather. Now isn't it a bummer if you were stranded alone? Yeah you've got your gadgets. But what if there is no electricity or signal? And you are alone in your rented room..and you hear the door creak and you see a shadow and then a white fabric and Waaah..deep breaths, deep breaths..just kidding..it was just house keeping..but only to glance at the clock and it's 3am! Whhaatt?

#9~ Recently, we've experienced our share of a somewhat major accident. The rented ATV toppled over 2 of my buddies while going down the hill. If you were alone, how could you have gotten out and who would've been there for you at the hospital? You would need someone to help you out from buying your tetanus shots and meds from the pharmacy to being your human cane when you have difficulty walking. right Ryan?

Well, that concludes my list of why we need travel buddies. Travelling by yourself is good for building confidence and showing independence. May it be a personal reason or not, isn't it better to have someone to share your adventures with?

Feel free to add your reasons on the comments below if you think there is something missing on my list.

And yeah! a shout out to my special "Buddy" who supports my need to travel and understands, that sometimes he prefers to be left behind to give way to me. Thank you Uyog!
