Hitchhiking adventures in Italy - Talamone and Siena #10

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Sorry guys for letting you wait incredible 23! days for the next part of this adventure. I was just so eager to make different posts :D I hope you forgive me and that you enjoy this part of the adventure as well.

So where were we...? Ah yes, in Saturnia. We were hitching to the next bigger town with a nice couple of pensioners in their van. There we entered a supermarket. Even though the day before we had some snacks at Saturnia we already felt like starving. So we bought nice fruits and bread and started eating in front of the supermarket. This is when something strange happened. Some car stopped and asked us if we needed a ride. We were actually not planning to leave the place so soon but since it seemed convenient to take the ride when you get it we decided to jump into the car and go for the chance.

The driver said that he would drive to a place where we would be able to get a bus to Siena, a place we wanted to visit. Before he said, he needed to meet some business partners but he would drive us to a place that was nice and where we could go swimming: beautiful Talamone. It was awesome. But after some time I got a bit of panic for we left our backpacks with all our belongings, including our passports in his car. I thought: "OMG! Are you so stupid? You trust everyone and now you have nothing but a Bikini and you are in Italy!" In the end he came back and everything was fine. Such a relieve!

So we drove further with him and took the bus to Siena.

I did actually not take so many photographs in Siena. With this one I felt inspired and tried some experimental photo editing. What do you think?

On this altar you can see a picture of Romulus and his brother Remus who were the mythological founders of Rome. They were nursed by a wolf. When they built the wall of Rome Remus made fun of his brother Romulus who had just built a very small wall but with a lot of pride. He jumped over the wall to make a joke. Romulus did not like the joke so much and killed his brother.

I just loved the decoration of this ceiling. One of the most beautiful pieces of art I had discovered on this journey. I know this is always a matter of perspective. For me this is just amazing...

But there was even more great art around. If you visit Siena you will find that everywhere there is art.

Also the architecture is incredibly beautiful. But all this enchanting beauty comes with a price. A price that we as low budget travellers were not able to pay. The town does not have a hostel (the people told us so, maybe they did not know it) and every bed and breakfast is 60 Euros or more per night. This was no option. So we had to move on.

But first a little more of discoveries. It really is a nice place and if you have the chance I recommend you to visit it. Just bring money. Also the food is expensive compared to other places in Italy. The ice cream is incredibly tasty though.

Another piece of art we discovered on the way. Thank you for reading this post and for your support. If you liked this adventure check out the previous parts of the journey as well.
