Stunning Nahm Dong Park

Summary

Stunning natural park, south of Luang Prabang. Just half an hour drive on a scooter. Most beautiful scooter ride, tasty local food, amazing kids who travelled with us.

The Experience

Mathilde and I arranged to get to the Kuang Si waterfall with two parents and their three kids but I made a mistake on the navigator by using the walking path instead of the the route for car. So, we ended up driving on dirt road that was very broken. Literally, the hardest road to ride on scooter any one of us ever did. But it was so worth it. We saw the most amazing and stunning mountain and rice fields together with waterfall and had a tasty lunch inside the park.

We arrived in the Nahm Dong park just after noon and got a glimpse of the amazing nature within.

We had an amazing lunch together where we ate lots of raw food. The sauce made it possible for me to eat the raw veggies. They even gave us raw eggplants to eat. It was a bit bitter but the sauce made all of them taste amazing.

We then did a bit of exploring, mainly to find a way to the Kuang Si waterfall but then got stuck at a hiking trail with stairs. This was what happened in between.

Stunning mountain scene

We were all very glad I made the mistake so we could see all the nature. I must admit that this ride was the most beautiful one in my life. The nature was just so wild and magical.

The next day we arrived in Kuang Si waterfall, which is the most stunning waterfall I have ever seen. It rivals those in Australia and Canada. If you wish to read and see the photos, stay tuned for my next blog post about it.

Laos is such a stunning (albeit chaotic) country! We traveled north-to-south in Laos in 2013, starting with a longboat down the Mekong at the Thai border, and ending with a crossing into Cambodia near Don Det.

It's a bit of an extra effort to get there, but if you can get out to Kong Lor Cave it's totally worth it. You can take a longtail boat up a river through a massive cave and out the other side of a massive karst mountain. It's a really magical place... so peaceful...

I'll have to post more about my Cambodia trip on my upcoming Epic Honeymoon series at @thescubageek ... love your series of adventures!

Looking forward to reading your story. Thanks for your reply. We may go further south from Vientiane where we are right now. Great that you mentioned the Kong Lor cave. We might stop over there. But our final destination in Laos will be Pakse then we go to Vietnam and later Cambodia.
