The city of Assisi is renowned for being among the most beautiful in Umbria but it is above all a religious landmark as it is the land of San Francesco d'Assisi, an Italian religious and poet who lived in the 12th century AD.

The majestic Basilica of San Francesco stands on a hill where the Saint was initially buried and on which land the Upper Basilica, the Lower Basilica, the crypt and the monastery were built over the centuries. The Basilica is full of frescoes dedicated to San Francesco and his earthly life painted by masters such as Cimabue, Giotto and highly skilled national and local artists. The Upper and Lower Basilica retain an Italian Gothic style with some golden elements that give a precious aspect to the imposing structure and the arched roof. The nature that surrounds the city is the true spectacle not only of Assisi but of the whole Umbria region. Green expanses of vegetation surround the city and the tourists who visit it. The air itself is fresh and helps to face the winding roads, often characterized by climbs with not simple slopes, but at the end of everything, despite the tiredness in the legs, the happiness of having visited a magical city.
