Just Viski and me attempting to be quiet...

We’ve been travelling for weeks now and are a long way from the familiarity of home, the comfort of our own space and the two little fur-babies we left back in Australia; Our cats, Merlin and Cleo.

We put a lot of time, effort and love into our two cats; They run the household, dictate what we do, when we do it, how long we do it for and generally are our best friends. They each have personalities and moods of their own and treat us accordingly. For instance when we return home they’ll be excited (for about 1 minute) and then will ignore us to teach us a lesson for leaving them. Of course within 10 minutes they’ll be rubbing on us and making us sit so they can crawl into our laps. We are really looking forward to seeing them.

This image is Viski, the trusty four-legged companion to @tarazkp and his wife. He’s 12 years old, and as a matter of fact, today is his birthday. He’s a good dog, well mostly, and is a great companion to them and my niece. Right now I’m sitting on the couch with him whilst my sister-in-law is trying to put my niece to sleep for her afternoon nap. We have to be quiet as any noise will distract her and keep her awake. I can actually hear my two year old niece singing nursery rhymes, Incy-Wincy-Spider being the rhyme of choice right now...I’m not sure there’s been a lot of success in getting her to sleep so far.

Viski and I are just hanging out together trying to be quiet. My wife and brother are at the shop getting supplies and so, besides my niece singing, it’s quiet. Sitting here with Viski makes me think about my cats and how great it’ll be to see them again. Pets are a large part of many people’s lives, us included, and I often marvel at their ability to endear themselves to us, to become such an integral part of our lives with just a few wags of a tail, a gentle nudge or, as with our cats, just sitting in our laps. We’ll be home soon enough and will get to cuddle our cats but until then I’ll just sit tight and attempt to be quiet with Viski.
