Watermelon

The third full moon is the most important Buddhist holiday celebrating Lord Buddha's enlightment.

Free Turtle

This turtle was going to be someone's dinner. We painted, Please don't kill me, in Gold paint in Laos language, and released it on Phou Si Mountain. In my opinion, it is in no way a mountain, but rather a small hill. It only takes 300 steps to make it to the top. It has an important temple and historic significance so maybe it's a religious Freudian slip.

At first, I was concerned about the turtle being on the mountain, but it's a land turtle, so it'll be happy there. If anyone finds it, they'll most likely be a monk so they wouldn't eat it.

Prayer Table

Everyone prayed around this donation table.

Good Luck

We exchanged good luck blessing bracelets and even drank blessed beer.

Welcome

P Mai welcomed me into her family me as her little brother. I love her. She is the nicest Lao Queen I've met so far.

Gold

There are many Buddhas inside the temple and one really BIG one.

Tiles

They wrote their wish on the back of these tiles. Some wrote in Chinese. Most wrote in Lao and some in English.

Camera Time

Everyone had fun with the pictures. I've always been two to five generations behind phone wise, so I've never tried taking photos at night until I got my hands on this Canon Rebel.

Blurry Moon

I set it to night mode and held it very steady. Most of the shots were blurry or boring. Since each picture is at 18 Megapixel with RAW data, I'll delete 90% of the shots from the camera and more after seeing them on the iPad Pro's large screen.

Cool Girls

I was able to get the girls and the ancient site, but not the moon. What does it take to shoot the moon well?

Zoom

I see nice cameras that have big zoom lenses. Can they get moon shots with a tripod?

Candle

That will be the true test of smart phones in the 1 Gigapixel+ future; Smart phones that can capture the moon and rings of Jupiter.

3 Times

After everyone lit their candles we walked around the temple barefoot three times.

Novice

Young monks who were the brightest from their village can come here and learn English. After their time in the temple they'll have skills that can get them good service jobs.

White

Light skin is a freakish beauty obsession here in Asia. This picture was taken with very low light at 20:00. I had to alter the brightness and shadows a lot to make it look like this, the way they wanted it. I think because the photo has so much raw data, it can be adjusted in many ways and still look great.

In the Temple

Thank you for celebrating this important Buddhist holiday with us in Luang Prabang. Have a wonderful day.

Photography Tips:

☀️Submit to the sun! Nothing can provide better lighting than a clear day at noon.

📷Get close up! Make the photos feel 3D by having the camera focus on something very close while showing layers of blurred background.

✂️Cut, crop, and delete until you have ten good shots with unique proofread text.

Very interesting insight into the buddhist culture and traditions. The photos are great too , even the night ones. Hopefully, the little tortoise fella is living a happy life thanks to you :) My pleasure to get you some extra support for your work.

I was a totally radical and cool Ninja Turtles fan when I was a kid, so I have a soft spot for them. Cowabunga little dude!

Haha, same here :) I loved them. I was always Leonardo :)
