Turkey
At the border of two continents, two cultures, two religions, two different ways of life, Turkey has always been a country which has excited the imagination and enticed travelers from all over. Indeed these days more and more people are heading to this magical country, and it's easy to see why. The fusion of east and west offers a scintillating blend to the curious twenty-first-century tourist in everything from the sights to see, to the food on offer for you to taste, and the warm and welcoming people.
Sites
The country’s ancient heritage is on show wherever you turn, with an abundance of monuments and sites renowned all over the world. Even so, Turkey is a nation which is clearly looking forward, always eager to attract more visitors with its choice of fantastic modern-day resorts with comfortable, welcoming accommodation. On the coastline, you’ll find clean, luxuriant beaches which draw crowds from far and wide looking for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Visit the Aegean Coast and you’ll get the opportunity to take in its endless attractions situated in a beautiful region with a splendid, sunny, warm climate. Here you’ll be walking amid the sites of the ancient cities of Ephesus and Troy, and even have the chance to visit the incredible natural wonder of Pamukkale, the ‘cotton castle’ which wows anyone who comes for a visit.
As well as the country’s stunning beaches where you can spend days lounging in beautiful sunlight, the big cities across the land attract many looking for the cosmopolitan urban experience in modern Turkey. Visit Istanbul, the former capital of both the Ottoman and Byzantine empires, or take a trip to trendy, popular resort towns such as Antalya and Bodrum, or explore the history surrounding Konya and Trabzon. Wherever you choose to make your base, you’ll be mesmerized by the rich fusion of flavors and cultures that makes contemporary Turkish life all that it is.
Food
Combining Mediterranean, Central Asian, Caucasian and Arabic flavors, Turkish cuisine is always popular, with plenty of spices complementing beef and lamb along with eggplant, onion, lentil, bean, tomato, and garlic, with rice, bulgur wheat and bread the main staples. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding specialized restaurants. Traditional establishments serve meals which are prepared every day and stored in a bain-marie. There are even restaurants which specialize in kebabs, some of which serve alcohol.
In all, Turkey has so much to offer an adventurous traveler looking for a destination which simply cannot be beat. A beautiful country, rich in culture, and with plenty to enjoy
