Winter Sleeps in the Valley - Klamath Lake, Oregon

in travelfeed •  6 years ago

Thanks for joining me in my adventures. This blog is dedicated to travels off the beaten path. You won't find my review of Disney World here, but you might just discover a new way to explore your world. If you're a fan of the road less traveled, I think you'll like what we have in store today.

Small cities often have the most beautiful parks, and Klamath Falls, Oregon is no exception. This park sits right at the edge of town and borders Klamath Lake. Join me as we take a quick walk around.

From this angle, it appears as though winter is just beginning here in the valley. The grasses are thick and golden still as if they soak up the sun's warm rays daily. Winter creeps across the lake and tickles the land's edge with frost.

Here, winter is more evident, although we've only moved a few feet to the left of the golden grasses. The trees arch together, huddled to hold in the last vestiges of heat. The lake slows and calms as it begins to cool in readiness for the deep freeze which is on the way.

The frigid air is dry and pulls the last bits of moisture from the small branches only to freeze as soon as it emerges. Look closely - the tree is clothed in furs of frost. Everything sleeps to make it through the cold ahead.

From a distance the sky, mountain, and lake all blend together. Their blues blur and freeze, echoing across the winter. In a few short months, the lake will teem with fish and birds, the mountains will turn green and rains will pour, but for now...

For now, Klamath Lake sleeps through the winter.

Happy Travels!

Jennifer

You have such a poetical way of phrasing Jennifer. Such a pleasure to read and breathe in every word. And your images are spellbindingly beautiful. Leafless trees and golden grasses, with expanses of white snow and exposed rocky outcrops with mountains in the distance ~ Natural magic. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Aww shucks... 😚😚😚

I like the phrase natural magic. That's the perfect way to express what I felt at the lake. Oregon is full of such magic!

What will be the temperature around therE ? I am in love with the last photograph

This time of year the temperature was hovering right around 0 C. I've not been there in the middle of winter, but I hear it doesn't get much colder than that.

And thank you!

Ohh I don’t think so snow would melt easily over there

Oregon looks really pretty! Hope one day to visit!

It's gorgeous, and quite different from North to South. This post is from the South where it's more mountains and high desert, but further North it's almost like a rain forest! Lots of mountains though, whichever way you go. 😍

Thanks for dropping by!

The photos are amazing! They give the feeling of a snowy fairy tale)

Thank you! Much of Oregon feels like a fairy tale. Ohhh.... do I smell a contest in the making?

Breathtaking photos! Wow! Nature is so beautiful! I love this...

Winter creeps across the lake and tickles the land's edge with frost.

Just lovely! :)

Many thanks! At times, nature's beauty inspires me toward poetic prose. 😊😍😊

Thank you so much. I'm honored to be included!

Nice shots! Winter is so pretty. I've been to Klamath lake once. It was during the summer though. Probably the worst bugs I've ever seen. They were so thick that it was hard to drive as the windshield and the headlights kept getting completely covered in bugs. It was pretty gross. lol.

Ewww.... I had that experience once, but it was driving south through Mississippi. Poor bugs, but seriously, you'd think they'd get out of the road!

Great shots. The pictures create a very nice winter mood.

Thank you. :-)

Great job mattifer, this is a beautiful post!

Muchos gracias mi amigo!
