Change Of Plan
We were supposed to come back to homebase by end of February, but because of health issues of my husband, I needed to rebook our flight and cut short our winter stay in Andalucia by five weeks. We´ve been coming to Torrox since more than two decades now to spend our winter season in this town. Winter could be harsh in Austria and that was the reason why we escape yearly from there and stay in Southern Spain because it has a milder temps and about 10°C warmer than the rest of Central Europe.

Flight Rebooking
About the flight rebooking, it was a waste to let go of our return Swiss ticket as I cannot have it refunded, our ticket fell under the classic category meaning it has a baggage allowance of 23 Kilos but rebooking for free was not allowed unless the ticket was a flexi one. And since we have my mom in-law´s dog Lily ( a chihuahua), we also had to forget her ticket too (60 Euros for one way) and get a new one. When mom in-law passed away, we took Lily home. Since 2015 she´s been with us and everywhere we travelled, she also travelled with us. .

New Travel Bag For Lily And Tips When Travelling With Pet

I got a new travel bag for Lily a few days before the flight commenced. I found a slightly bigger one that is more comfortable for her but still on the prescribed size for the cabin. In there, she could fully stand up during the flight. Funny thing was when we practiced her to get inside the new bag at home, she chose the old bag, lol! If you are carrying a pet with you when you travel, be sure to prepare her water container, dried dog food, a small towel, a paper towel to wipe the butt after a "big business." If travelling by plane, be sure to walk the dog before the flight, either you do this at home or at the airport vicinities. Do not let your dog drink plenty of water since it will suffer not to be able to piss on long hauls. Also take time to go to the airport earlier because there will be a security check for the dog, depending on the airport, the dogs have a special scanner separate from the humans.

Before Lily, we had a rottweiler named Ako, he had been travelling with us for 14 years until we put him to sleep forever in 2017 because of hip displacie. Ako had been a wide traveller, he flew with us to Cyprus, Tenerife, Southern Spain, Malta, Hungary, Italy, France and Germany. A behaved dog, he had a huge transport box for the flight and we had to give him a medicine to calm him down everytime we travel by plane. His box was placed in the luggage compartment of the plane. If you are travelling by plane with a pet, you have to see to it that you reserve the dog´s slot earlier before buying your own ticket, the space for animals on board the plane is limited on a first come, first served basis.

New Additional Cost
All in all, the rebooking of our plane tickets cost us 450 Euros and we had a priority check-in at the airports of Malaga, Zurich and Vienna. Inside the plane Zurich-Vienna, I had to sit by the window because of Lily, hubby sat on the aisle and between us seated was the former Austrian Chancellor Dr. Christian Kern, who now privately works for the European China Business Council, a community of top chinese companies including Alibaba. During his term about 3 years ago, a 1.3 Billion Euro Goverment Bonds had been notarized to be issued using the Ethereum Blockchain. When I asked him if ever he has invested in crypto, he denied it, well... who knows.

Arriving Safely And Back to Homebase
Meanwhile after arriving safely in Vienna, we were escorted by the Airport service personnel to the van that has been reserved for our arrival. I am glad that we didn´t have any mishaps whatsoever and the way back to homebase turned out successful. Hubby is recovering now after a week at the hospital. Til my next post.....

Have a nice weekend everyone!
