    "the plank in the sky" -walk takes about 45 minutes, so that really is not long. But you have to get to Huashan and get up the mountain with Cablecar (or walking, if you want to walk really a lot of stairs and steel-ladders), so we would recommend you a whole day-trip to the montains.
