In August 2017, my pal @danielw and I have spent 8 days in the saddle, traveling the total of 541 km while exploring the wonderful Dalmatia region. The location, briefly described below, is only one of the amazing destinations we have managed to visit during our tour.

Our vision

We are working hard on the knowledge base for travelers from all around the world (especially bikers). We will be delivering content that is both informative and entertaining. That includes (but is not limited to) handy tips on: how to service your bike and what tools to use, what to take with you on your trip, how to find free/cheap accommodation and washing facilities, what to eat during the trip to keep up the pace, where to cross country borders etc.

We are committed to making this our full time jobs and since we are passionate about it, we believe we can build a strong community behind our vision.

If you like to find out more and support us in our mission, you can go to our projects page on Fundition.io and/or check the latest project update.

Trsteno

Trsteno is a small town located in South Dalmatia, approximately 15 km from Dubrovnik. Is is situated on a steep bank that overlooks the Lopud island.

I must say that the views on the Adriatic Sea over there are truly amazing. I am not surprised at all that the locals have decided to put a bench in a spot where everyone can take a minute or two to relax and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.

Directions

Take the state road D8 south/north from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and drive until you reach approximately 590th km of the aforementioned road.

Camping

Similarly to Tučepi, there is no camping in the town itself. Since we are fine with taking some risks and definitely like adventures, we have decided to pitch our tent on an olive tree field.

If that is not your pair of shoes, the nearest camping is available at Camp Pod Maslinom and Kroatie, Orašac. We have spent a night in the first mentioned of the two during our ride back to Split. The overall experience was good and the only thing I can complain about was the non-direct access to the beach. First, we had to slip through the rocks and bushes (or olive trees), walk through a narrow catwalk (while trying not to fall off of it) and then slowly mince down from a pretty damn sheer road. I do not recommend doing that barefoot or in flip-flops!

Just look at them bushes...

Well, at least we put them to a good use :)

Points of Interest

Trsteno is well know for having the oldest botanical garden in Croatia - Trsteno Arboretum. In the past, it was even considered to be the most beautiful garden in the whole Europe. Beyond the arboretum boarders, there are also two 500 years old sycamores brought here from the Bosporus.

I really prefer stealth camping, especially if legal camping means being in a park full of people.

@robmolecule, me too :) I'm trying to avoid campsites as much as possible, but from time to time I like to spent a day at legal camping to rest mentally :)

It depends on the campsite too. I've been on legal campsites that are still remote enough. The worst ever was when I paid extra for a spot further away from other campsites only to discover there was a wedding taking place right next to us. They moved us to another section but we could still hear music playing until one in the morning. This is exactly what I want to get away from when going camping.

Yep. Quiet ones are difficult to come by in Croatia for instance, especially during the summer time when there's a lot of tourists.

Well, that sucked. I can imagine how annoying this must have been.

That's why I'd rather spent a night in the wild :)

All the best to you @robmolecule!

Hey @robmolecule, are you on discord by any chance ? :)

I am. I haven't really used it as I haven't found a group I want to post in. How would I find anyone on here? I have the same user name. Honestly, I have no idea how to use Discord. I haven't used a chat room since the 90s.

I sent you a friend request :) You should see it once you log in to discord :)

I don't see anything.

That's strange. Are able to see my direct message by any chance ? :)
