Dry fish is one of the specialties of Bangali cuisine. We have a very enriched dry fish market all over the country. Though there are many people who don't love the smell of dried fish. But this is one of my favorites. We make different curries and dishes with dry fish and surely with lot of spices. It's absolutely delicious to me.

You will find hundreds of types of dried fish in different local shops also. But as Cox's Bazar is the city of Ocean, that means sea dried fish is available here largely. And you can get the fish at a very cheap price compared to what you may have to pay anywhere else in the country.

Cox's Bazar is just not about the sea. A large portion is about the beach market, seafood market and dry fish market. These are also major sources of tourist attraction. Last November, I had the chance to visit Cox'sBazar and I didn't miss to but some dried fish for me.

Why So special?

There are several places on Cox's Bazar where you can but dried sea fish. I choose to go to this Burmese Market. This is the place where you will find the most variety at a reasonable price.

How to go?

It's not far away from the main town though it's not in the heart of the town. You can take any local vehicle to reach there. It will take less than 20 minutes. Also, it's a very popular place so you don't have to struggle to find it.

There are nearly 50 stores of dried fish. You can see every store is full of different fishes. They have a huge variety. And the price also varies depends on the fish variety. They have $5 a Kilogram to $150 a kilogram.

You may know that these shops are not a fixed price. Don't be fooled by seeing 'fixed price' sign in different shops. You also can bargain there and they will reduce the cost. If you are looking for the finest quality, you should come to visit this place.

This is how the place looks like from the outside. You will get to see some huge fishes are hanging there, from the outside. If you don't like the smell of dried fish, this place may smell like a rotten place to you. So, I highly suggest you to not go there. Though the smell is not that much, I have seen people who don't like dried fish feel very uncomfortable there.

And, if you are a dry fish lover like me; include this market in your visit list. It's worth to try.
