A morning walk at Grafenegg Castle in Lower Austria

in travelfeed •  5 years ago  (edited)

Grafenegg Castle is a castle approx. 15 kilometers from Krems in Lower Austria. The castle has been originally built around 1500, but converted into the style of romantic historism in the 1850s by the architects Leopold and Hugo Ernst.

The castle is surrounded by a big park with some "historic" trees and some very rare trees and other plants. And you can visit the graves of the dogs (yes, with gravestones!) that the former owners of the castle buried in the park.

The former horse stable is already used as concert hall for some decades. 2007 it was extended with an "Auditorium" created by the architects group the next ENTERprise.

In the year 2008, the architects schröder schulte-ladbeck created the "Wolkenturm" ("cloud tower"), an open air arena that since then hosts the Grafenegg Festival, an international festival for classical music, lead by the famous pianist Rudolf Buchbinder.

In december the famous Grafenegger Advent, a Christmas market, takes place in the Castle. From April to October you can visit the beautiful historic rooms including the library and the chapel. The latter can also be used as wedding chapel.

I visit Grafenegg several times a year. No matter if you enjoy the blooming trees in spring, the autumn colours or even the snowy winter landscape there - it is always worth a visit.
