Hi, Dear Steemers.🤗
Today i share with you all about the Bat Cave of Nepal & hope you like it.
The bat cave is located in pokhra, nepal. You can reach their by bus easily from anywhare in pokhra(and i were also prefer that way). The surrounding location of bat cave is very pleasing. This cave is the home of different species of bats mostly the fruit bats.
This cave locally known as chamer gufa. The local people are not much interested to visit that cave as they are used to seeing that bats every day or i should say every evening and night flying around their houses.
There are stairs to go inside the cave. this cave is below the ground.
When you bought entrance ticket, a torch is provided with it so you can move easily in dark cave.
The main entrance of cave is narrow but it is wide enough from inside and look like a great hall. This cave is around 150 mtr long and 25ft in height.
When you reached to the larger section of cave, you witnessed a few thousand of BATS clinging to the ceiling of a damp and slippery chamber and occasionally chirruping into the darkness.
If you have a bat fobia, this cave is not for you.
As you move farther in the cave, you will see iron railings on a high surface of cave. You must be careful to reach there because the surface area of cave is very slippery due to continueus water dropping from the roof of this limestone cave.
Along with these railings there is a narrow and very dark way for exit.
You need to be crawl there to make your way through it.
A very little information has been published on the bats species of nepal.
The taxonomic numeric of nepalies bat species reports confirmed the existence of fifty plus bat species in the country.
Economic Importance of bats in Nepal :-
1. Pollinator and seed disperser:
Fruit eating bats are very important pollinator and seed disperser of many fruits and nuts like: Papaya, Banana, Mango, Litchi, Amla, Kathar, Palm etc. They also pollinate and disperse seeds of other plants like Figs, Peepal, Kadam, Eucalyptus, Neem etc. Cynopterus and Rousettus bats are remarkably important for dispersing seeds of Rudraksa in Eastern hills of Nepal. Additionally the products from these trees are used to generate income.
2. Pest and disease controller:
Insectivorous bats are feed upon mosquitoes; sand flies, bugs etc. and not only control their population but also inhibit the outspread of diseases like Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Kala-azar, Dengue etc. Some Insectivorous bats feed upon moths, grasshoppers and leafhoppers as well as cockroaches and limits the economic losses to farmers. Carnivorous bats for eg. Megaderma lyra feed upon rats and limits the loss of grains during storage.
