There are many ways to attract tourists to visit a place; one of them is by holding the big names of other tourist objects that are already known to many people. This tactic has been carried out by the government in Bukitinggi and Agam Regency to introduce one of the new tourist objects in the region. THE GREAT WALL OF KOTO GADANG. It's cool. The name of this attraction resembles the name of the Great Wall in China, but is this wall in West Sumatra? How come you can? Now thanks to the name that arises curiosity to many people, well ... including us. Yep, a pretty good marketing strategy

The story, the Great Wall of Koto Gadang was once one of the many 1000 beds (beds = stairs). These 1000 beds are thousands of stairs that rise and fall around the Sianok Canyon. This ladder is used by local residents as a public road to one village to another and the road to Batang Sianok which is at the bottom of the valley. Sianok Canyon scenery around Janjang 1000 is actually no less good than Panorama Park (where tourists usually see the Sianok canyon), but at that time Janjang 1000 was still less popular than other attractions. Fortunately the local government was quite creative and Tadaaa ... one of the thousand long lines was transformed into the Great Wall of West Sumatra. Since it was overhauled, the pulse in a thousand bare began to be crowded by tourists, not only domestic and foreign tourists as well.

This Great Wall of Koto Gadang connects Bukittinggi City around Goa Japan door 3 with Koto Gadang Agam Regency. there is no entrance ticket, just pay for the vehicle parking ticket. The location is perfect for those who like trekking because the location is still natural with a tortuous road. The entire track is about 1.5 km up and down stairs. Quite tiring indeed especially Fortunately the view of the Sianok Canyon and the breeze gives additional energy to reach the end of the Road.

When compared to the original Great Wall of China, of course, the Great Wall of the Koto Gadang is far from everywhere. The size is smaller and shorter. However, the scenery around the wall might not be as good as that of China. There are no local elements of Minang in the Koto Gadang Great Wall, all of them tracing the Great Wall raw in China with a simpler form. Although it seemed "forced" and "not connected" but we were quite appreciative of the efforts of citizens and the local government in attracting tourists.

We all know that Indonesian society is a creative society. But unfortunately many creative things are not poured in the right place. that's what we witnessed along the walls of the Great Wall of Koto Gadang. The wall from end to end was filled with vandalism. Not only walled, even on the floor too. Citizens and the government are creative but are not balanced by responsible tourists.

Banyak cara untuk menarik minat wisatawan berkunjung ke suatu tempat; salah satunya adalah dengan cara menggandeng nama besar objek wisata lain yang sudah dikenal banyak orang. Taktik itu pernah dilakukan oleh pemerintah di Bukitinggi dan Kabupaten Agam untuk memperkenalkan salah satu objek wisata baru di wilayahnya. THE GREAT WALL Of KOTO GADANG. Keren kan namanya. Nama objek wisata ini menyerupai nama tembok besar (Great Wall) di China, tapi tembok ini ada di Sumatra Barat? Loh Kok Bisa?. Nah berkat namanya itulah timbul rasa penasaran pada banyak orang, yahh…. termasuk kami. Yap, strategi pemasaran yang cukup bagus

Ceritanya, Great Wall of Koto Gadang ini dulunya adalah salah satu dari sekian banyak janjang 1000 (janjang = tangga) . Janjang 1000 ini adalah tangga berjumlah ribuan yang naik turun disekitaran Ngarai Sianok. Tangga ini digunakan oleh warga sekitar sebagai jalan umum menuju satu kampung ke kampung yang lain dan jalan menuju Batang Sianok yang berada di dasar lembah. Pemandangan Ngarai Sianok disekitar Janjang 1000 sebenarnya tidak kalah bagus dari Taman Panorama ( tempat turis biasanya melihat ngarai sianok), Namun saat itu Janjang 1000 masih kalah populer dibandingkan objek wisata lainnya. Untungnya Pemerintah setempat cukup kreatif dan Tadaaa.. salah satu jalur janjang seribu disulap menjadi Tembok Besar ( Great Wall ) Sumatra Barat. Sejak dirombak, denyut nadi di janjang seribu mulai ramai oleh wisatawan, tidak hanya domestik bahkan turis luar negeri juga.

Great Wall of Koto Gadang ini menghubungkan Kota Bukittinggi disekitaran Goa Jepang pintu 3 dengan Koto Gadang Kabupaten Agam. tidak ada tiket masuk, cukup bayar tiket parkir kendaraan saja. Lokasinya sangat cocok buat yang menyukai trekking karena lokasinya masih alami dengan jalan yang berliku-liku. Trek keseluruhan sekitar 1.5 km naik turun tangga. Cukup melelahkan memang apalagi Untungnya pemandangan Ngarai Sianok dan semilir angin memberi tenaga tambahan untuk mencapai ujung Jalan.

Kalau dibandingkan dengan Tembok Besar China yang asli tentunya Tembok Besar Koto Gadang kalah jauh kemana mana. Ukurannya lebih kecil dan lebih pendek. Akan Tetapi pemandangannya disekitar tembok mungkin tidak kalah bagus dengan yang china. Tidak ada unsur lokal minang di Great Wall Koto Gadang ini, semuanya menjiplak mentah2 Great Wall di China dengan bentuk yang lebih sederhana. Walaupun terkesan “maksa” dan “nggak nyambung’ tapi kami cukup mengapresiasi usaha warga dan pemerintah setempat dalam menarik minat wisatawan.

Kita semua tau bahwa masyarakat indonesia adalah masyarakat yang kreatif. Namun sayangnya banyak hal kreatif tersebut tidak dituangkan pada tempat yang semestinya. itulah yang kami saksikan di sepanjang dinding Great Wall of Koto Gadang. Tembok dari ujung ke ujung di penuhi oleh tulisan tulisan vandalisme. Tidak hanya ditembok, bahkan di lantai juga. Warga dan pemerintah sudah kreatif namun tidak di imbangi oleh wisatawan yang bertanggung jawab.
