The hassles before travelling

Travelling is always fun but what I do not like is completing all those tedious formalities before travelling. End of March my family, all of us are planning to travel and we have to make all travel arrangements before that. The most important being completing the Visa formality. For us Indians these visa formalities are painful, they want all sorts of documents to be presented for that, including the bank statements to show that financially you can afford this holiday in the respective country.

The Country we are travelling to, which I do not want to disclose it now, for that if there is a Valid U.S, visa then one can directly apply online and get a eVisa. Me and hubby have got our U.S. visa just couple of months back so it was a relief for us, but my Son does not have a U.S. visa so he has to make personal application by visiting the Consulate. So, even if we were saved from all the hassles we still need to make all arrangements for him, which is as good as going through the entire Visa process for all of us. We need to provide flight tickets, hotel reservations, Insurance, bank statements, and what not.

While I was applying for eVisa, on the payment part there were options of 4 types of Visas, of which one was the basic, then standard, after that priority and the last one exclusive. Since we are travelling towards end of March and have more then a month, I applied for the basic one, which was the least cost of 50$. The difference between these is not in the Visa type, it's only about how fast you can get. When I applied for the basic one, I could not proceed ahead, it gave me a prompt that it was too late to apply for this visa and I will not get the visa on time. It was greyed out and I could not proceed ahead only, so then without any other option I had to select the standard Visa, which was then directly 125$. More then double. Honestly my heart ached towards this difference, but I had no choice.

After completing the payment and submitting the application, I thought it would take around a week's time to get the Visa, because the way the prompts were coming through the application process it seemed like there are many applications coming through. In 2 hrs time I happened to check my email and to my surprise I had already received the Visas. I was happy and feeling very annoyed at the same time. Happy that the Visa had come, but annoyed that if it was this simple why was I not able to get it in 50$ and why was I compulsory forced to select the 125$ option. 75$ additional for each one of us, means 150$ is a very big amount to just let it go. But then do I have a choice? If I have to travel I need to get it.

Now I have to wait for my Son's Visa, there is a whole lot of formalities to be completed for that, which we are working on. Let's see how it goes.
