in traveltip •  6 years ago

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I will show you another Gothic masterpiece of the country, the monumental medieval castle of Loket.

Located in the Karlovy Vary Region, approximately 12 km (7 mi) outside the popular spa town of the same name (Karlovy Vary), the Loket Castle is a majestic medieval castle found on a massive rock above the Ohre River.

The first official mention of the castles dates back to 1234 but some historians suggest the castle might have already existed as early as in the second half of the 9th century. The unique inaccessible location of Loket earned it a nickname "the impregnable castle" and there even was a legend saying that whoever manage to conquer the Loket Castle will be able to take over the whole country.

A popular tourist attraction of the area, the castle has been featured in several movies, including the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale where it represented a town in Montenegro.

This is an incredible piece of architecture to be able to still be standing after so many years. I would love to visit it one day. I have always wanted to visit a few castles and stay the night in them. My family heritage had a castle called Craigie Castle in Craigie, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is just ruins now though.

Wow! That sure is something to have such a heritage even though it is just ruins right now. I am sure that you will make it over here at some point.

Thank you. We are planning on visiting Scotland for my son's graduation present.

The castle has been featured in several movies, including the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale where it represented a town in Montenegro.

@czechglobalhosts, Omg....I watched 3 or 4 times Casino Royale movie. Pretty outstanding background places it represented. I didn't know it's Prague. Castle of Loket has impressive looks and nice technology seemed. Better location built it and night view so adorable under the colorful lights.

The Czech Republic has become quite popular with the film-makers.... The location, cost and the cultural heritage makes it a win-win situation.

Absolutely stunning! those castles are so different from architecture in China!

Oh, yeah:).... It is a pretty spectacular country well worth visiting.

I guess i would have to watch james bond all again to really see the castle well..thanks for the tip☺

There you go, pretty good reason to do just that:)
