Enjoying a cup of tea while listening to birds singing and surrounded by the shade of a tree you planted yourself is a dream for many. Growing such a tree can take decades. But the idea of creating a small park is quite possible.
In just a few years, certain trees can turn an uneven, empty piece of land into a lovely green space with a bench for relaxing and enjoying your tea. These trees are fast-growing, easy to care for, and tough enough to handle different conditions.
Many types include fruit trees and ornamental varieties. So, what kinds of trees are these?
Birch trees are among the fastest-growing and easiest to maintain. They often come to mind first when thinking about quick-growing trees. A birch can grow 1 to 2 meters taller each year. It’s more than just the tree with golden bark—birch is a large group of trees with many different shapes of leaves, sizes, and styles of crowns.
Birches are very hardy, love sunlight, and do not do well in compacted soil. It’s best not to plant them near paved paths. They handle cold weather and pests well. Experts suggest planting birches next to pine trees to create a beautiful mixed forest scene.
Willows grow even faster. Varieties like weeping willow, goat willow, and others are popular with landscape designers. Willows can grow around 1 meter each year when young. They are long-lasting, resistant to cold, pests, and pollution.
Willows also have a good ability to recover after damage. But they do not grow well in standing water. They are best planted in sunny spots with slightly alkaline soil.
Be aware that willows attract many bees and insects in spring because of their fragrant, golden catkins. They are excellent honey plants and tend to draw lots of pollinators during bloom.
