Greetings, tree friends! I hope you are having a good day out there in Steem land. Today I am here to talk about another way you can help trees!
Help Emmy's brethren!
There is an app called Tree Snap (https://treesnap.org/) that is part of a citizen science project to get more data about certain species of trees that are threatened in some way. Some of the trees on the list for my area are Ash (because emerald ash borer) and Elm (because Dutch elm disease), for example. Since the app will geolocate where you make a report as you make it, it will give you a list of trees to choose from (and an "other" option as well) that they are looking for data on. The scientists collecting the data want to find species of trees that are doing well despite the challenges, so they can see what helps or perhaps breed more babies from that tree's seeds, or trees that are not doing well so they can see where the potential problems may have spread.
So today I made my first report on Emmy's parent trees - the two elms next to the parking lot outside that I'm always cleaning and just dropped seed bombs on. :D I feel like some people adopt a street or a highway or a bus stop, and I've adopted a parking lot...
You only need to report on one of that species of tree in a given location, because it will ask you about any other trees of the same species in the area in the report as well. That's the "trees nearby" question in the screenshot below:
So I've decided I'm calling the closer elm, Emmy Sr., and the further elm, Ellie Sr., since I seem to flip back and forth between calling my friend on the balcony Emmy and Ellie, LOL. Here's a screencap of my report. I did include more photos, they're just not shown here.
Here is a list of the trees they are looking for data on, and the partner science/conservation groups that are looking for the data: https://treesnap.org/trees
You can do this in your neighborhood, or when you take a hike out in the forest. It geolocates the tree via your cell as you're filling out the report, and then you can wait to upload it to their servers later when you're on wifi, if the signal isn't great or you only have so much data on your plan or whatever. Only the scientists who need the data can see the exact coordinates, according to what I've read.
I love that we all can pitch in where we're at to help the trees survive and thrive! <3 Thanks for reading! <3

This is super cool! We use to do this when there wasn't cell phones, mapping heirloom strain material in Arizona super cool program.. Gonna check the app out thanks dear one!
