- Mighty Mammoth Oaks -
On the way to a place we call the Book Forest here around Lake Bergundasjön in Växjö, Sweden there is a pet cemetary with some awesomely mammoth trees. I thought showing you some photographs I took last fall would make a perfect addition to #TreeTuesday! There were two trees in particular that were massive in scope and scale! Two mighty oaks that I imagine have been standing atop this hill for quite some measure of time. They would have to be ancient oaks in order to be that large!
In the series of next four images, I tried to capture the towering height and sheer volume from the foot of the tree. I took the images in reverse order than they are presented. I am sorry I couldn't steady the camera better for the base of the trunk and roots... but the images lined up better than I would have imagined. The tree canopy looks cool from underneath and you can see that I just pan down the trunk as I show the layout. In reality... I started at the bottom and panned my way up one shot at a time. I tried to make the transitions as seamless as possible and didn't realize until I now, making this post, how cool it turned out! You can see the tree is tagged and there is also a birdhouse on the way down/up!
This tree below is so massive it's canopy shades a whole area in this part of the forest! This photograph does no justice to the amazing girth of this mighty oak! This tree has to be super old to have both sides of this forking trunk so thick. When I look at this giant beast of a tree... I envision one of the coolest tree houses my imagination can come up with! It's big enough to dwell in! I can picture it wrapping around both trunks and supported by the branches as it winds around and up the oak. The only think missing are some cool rope bridges and a bunch of Ewoks!
Of course, It wouldn't be a proper post from me if I didn't have some fungus to add to the mix. Here we have a bracket fungi growing on one of our fallen friends! I thought it was a pretty cool shot so I threw it in just to mix things up a little! Many mushrooms remind me of turtle shells and these fungi are no exception. I also think of the Koopa Troopa shells from Super Mario Bros.
Lastly, I have a shot of what I believe to be a Silver Birch tree. The white bark is really cool and on the mature trees the black portions are super rugged. I think these trees are some of the most beautiful in character because of this bark. These kind of trees here are usually more like the paper bark birches when they are younger but as they get older though they become super hardy with the protection of that super cool bark. I used to play a game that had Bark Armor in it... I always thought that was a cool idea. When I saw this kind of tree for the first time that armor was the first thought that came to mind. That sounds like a cool picture I may have to draw soon! We shall see.
I thank you very much for taking the time to read my post and check out my photographs. I really enjoy #TreeTuesday and I am thankful for @old-guy-photos and for this tag. I am encouraged to always be on the lookout for nice opportunities to capture and share for Tree Tuesdays and Fungi Fridays. If you have any images of Fungi in any of it's forms... feel free to contribute your shot to #FungiFriday tag. It's a perfect way to find inspiration all week long! Thank you all for stopping by and I appreciate you. Until next time...

A complete photo report from your side castleberry ,lot of work should have been spent on this so I have to thank and congrat you.
Here were I live ancient trees aren't so high but it doesn't matters as it's magnificence is obvious, they are holm oaks normally that take a lot of time to get big due to a very slow growth. Any other day I'll post some of them.
We have fungus also !
Best wishes ;)
