I came across this interesting beauty with its striking crown as focal point at our local botanical gardens a few weeks ago.

This slow growing Tree Aloe is native to South Africa and considered an ornamental plant. It can grow as tall as 18m high and is recorded as Africa’s largest aloe. It has tubular rose pink flowers which bloom in the winter months.

It is a subtropical tree and you can find it in the coastal regions, kloofs and valleys. It has a shallow root system but enough space should be provided for the trees massive stem base which could reach a diameter of 3m when adult. Do not plant it close to buildings as it needs full sun and well-drained soil with added compost.

The Tree Aloe is also called the "InKalane Enkulu" which means "big one" in Zulu, one of our 11 languages spoken in South Africa.

Photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy S7.

Every time i see some photos here in the community and thinks that they are taken with a dslr and then find out that the person is using a galaxy s7, this is indeed a very capable phone of producing some great photos @crazymumzysa

Amazing shots and post.

Thank you freshstuff.

Amazing aloe trees. I have aloe growing in my backyard which I use for burns but they are just in pots.
Thank-you for your wonderful article!

Thank you cabbagepatch. We have some interesting aloe species here in South Africa. Actually, we are quite blessed with a huge variety of trees in all our provinces. Have a fabulous weekend.

That looks like Roodekrans Botanical garden, we have one of these in the Amanzimtoti Library gardens and it has been there well over 35 years we have lived here. Sadly the termites have gotten into it and half has fallen down recently @crazymumzysa

Needless to say winter flowering, and a joy to see the bees swarming around and pollinating in the warm wintry son.

Thank you for your reply joanstewart. I hope you have joined the South African community. I will add your user name. I need to go pay the Library a visit next time I am on holiday. We love spending time at Scotsburgh. Have fun this weekend.

This is cool, thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much, lily-da-vine. I loved this Aloe Tree and learning more about them.
