The Old Dog Presents: The "Mean" Teacher And The Burled Wood Contest Winners!

in treetuesday •  7 years ago  (edited)

Before I announce the Burled Wood contest winners let me tell you about a "mean" teacher that taught me a lesson when I was a kid.

At school we were always told that when doing a test or an exam we should read all of the questions on the test first before starting. Most of us thought that this was a waste of time and we just did the test beginning from question number one.

This Time We Regretted Not following Directions!

One day this "mean" teacher gave us a test with 10 questions. As usual most of us didn't read all the questions through before starting and we went from question 1 to question 10 in that order. When we got to question 10 it said. "You must only answer question number 5 on this test. Anyone who answers any other question will get a failing grade. What did you do?"

On that occasion almost all of us failed but we learned the lesson. Read the instructions!

Why Did I Tell You This Story?

For the first time ever I added the stipulation to the rules that all entrants must have a picture of someone holding a Steem sign to be eligible. Here is what I wrote:

IMPORTANT: There must be a person in the photo  (you or a friend) and the person must be holding a "sign" with the Steem  logo (hand drawn or otherwise).

Of all of the entries only 8 followed the rules (granted some wrote the word Steemit without the logo but I'm not too much of a stickler!) and so here are the winners for this contest:

Clockwise from top left: @oscarcede, @roelvi, @raizapenamcbo, @dexpartacus

Clockwise from top left: @otage, @netcy, @vee2180, @gautam

I've Raised The Prizes From 10 Steem Up To 13 Steem!

All of the above Steemers will be getting 1.50 Steem and I'm giving a bonus of an extra Steem to @netcy for her impressive find. Here it is shown a little bigger in all of its burly glory!

What a fantastic example of a Burl @netcy. I'm sending you a bonus of an extra Steem for this great photo!

Payments will go out in the next 24 hours so watch your wallets  and let's all continue to be amazed by the possibility of sending   funds with zero cost!

The Graphene blockchains are the world's best! Fast, furious and we can scale! Feel the pride, feel the joy and experience the power of our Steem blockchain!

Have you ever had a "mean" teacher that taught you a lesson? I hope that you enjoyed this article which features the "Mean" Teacher and Burled Wood winners!

Until next time,

Congrats to the winners. I once had to do an exam and did not know there were questions on both sides of the paper! It was only when my friends were chatting about the questions afterwards that I realised my mistake!

Lessons like that learned in youth stick with us for life. Thanks for relating that!

Indeed!

The big burl even seems to have the steem logo on it xD

:-)

Oooh I loved him.

Really cool that you upgrade the prize @kus-knee..and BIG congratulations to all the winners!

It's good to share in each others success!

Congratulations to all the winners! That is really an impressive tree all knotted up! :)

I had a teacher who handed out a test and flunked everyone. In the directions somewhere she wrote. Write your name at the top of the page and put your pencil down. The test is over. She had read that somewhere and thought it was a real lesson.

Ha! I always read the directions now!

As an aside, I want to thank you for the discreet visits to my posts and the generous upvotes. Very kind of you. ;)

Cool experience!

That is a pretty good lesson she taught you, and now us, Old Dog!

Yes, she was a great teacher!

Congratulations to the winners. And cool trick you pulled there on the contestants @kus-knee.
Now they know to read the instructions to the end as well.😀

Had a similar incident with my teacher in secondary school, but mine was much worse.
The last question was "Answer all questions in not more than 4 four lines." By the time the first person realized, we were half way through the test. Almost everyone's paper was full of cancellation in between lines trying to leave out only the best 5 lines😂😂

PS - He never told us to read the instructions to the end.

So i guess I'll be taking your next contest really serious and hoping for a win.
I took the #untamednature contest for granted

Thanks for sharing your experience!

You have much reason dear friend @ kus-knee in what you raise in the post, I do not participate in this slogan, I must admit that if I had also omitted this information.
I do not know why people omit some lines to read and that is where we make the worst mistakes of our lives, like the small letters of contracts.
Thank you very much for sharing that teaching you have obtained during your study moments
I wish you a great day

Yes it was an important lesson!

It pays to read directions and follow rules. Unfortunately we are a fast paced McDonalds society which is a shame. If folks can find a shortcut, they will. We all have had a mean teacher who taught us a lesson. As you age you realize that the teacher was not that mean. Thanks @kus-knee

Yes age makes us appreciate the "mean" ones! They weren't mean just wise!

Thank you so much for selecting my picture @kus-knee. Again thanks for giving me a chance to be a part of this contest. My daughter will be very happy when I will tell her.Congratulations to all the winners.

Let's make her happy!!!!!!!! And you too of course!

We both are very happy @kus-knee. Thanks for everything.

See, I see that as a kind teacher. I did not take part in the competition but there are some impressive burrs in my neighburrhood. I may post them next Tuesday:)

Yes that's we you call "tough" love! Much needed at times!

Wonderful contest and fantastic pictures!!!! Congratulation to the winners
:-D

Lots of fun!

I imagine ;-D

ooo thank you kus-knee,... maybe I understood it, because I am a teacher myself, and get sometimes worried that mu pupils don't listen to my questions , thank you for the tip ;-)
I'll keep that one in mind :) , in a nice way of course !

Do you teach art?

Art and Ethic :), a good combination, but it's hard to have motivated children ( age 14 to 18 years ) this days, and I think you gave a great example to motivate,
instead of punishing, I want to reward them :)

Very nice combination indeed. I was an involved in the design field until I moved to Europe. Then I went back to University to get my degree in English education.

I wrote my thesis on discipline in the classroom when dealing with teenagers! I figured that this would be the biggest challenge.

I do prefer teaching little children and adults but now I only teach groups of children on a volunteer basis. I love it but it's not my job and it's just once a week.

I'm sure that your job can be challenging but for sure you have touched the lives of some of your students deeply!

wow, that would not have been easy, and yes the one you see later in life and still be enthusiastic, do you ... did I have that much influence? It touches your heart at times :).

At first: congrats to the winners!!! The burled woods are fantastic and to see the smiling faces of steemians is super!
By the way, I have to congrats to your "mean" teacher too, because he/she gave to you a great lesson on how follow the right way ;)

Yes great smiles and the “mean” teacher was a good teacher!

Great show, I like it!

Congratulations to the winners!

Congratulations to the winners of this very nice contest!

Hahahhahaha, I had such an experience with my mathematics teacher while in high school. You need answer to question 10 to answer all other questions, I've answered question 1 to 9 before I saw it and it was about 5 mins to end the exam. That was the only time I failed mathematics in highschool... Smile
Instructions are part of examination.
Congratulations to the winners!

Thank you very much!!! congratulations to all the winners, as a saying of lawyers says "read carefully before signing". thanks @kus-knee

Congratulations to every winner. Not following instructions can be dangerous. I always read all the instructions on my college examination question paper before engaging them. Some of always need careful observation.😉

13 steem is not so bad. I'll see if I can grab it next time if there is.

How are you friend.
I have made your contest when I hardly make a post.
if you have time look at my contest

wow very nice post

good post.
how to enter your contest

Fantastic photography,,,
That's really great.......///////////

I think i have had quite a few mean teacher back then, but not really mean because it is their nature and all, but mostly because we all deserve some sticks. Haha. Really sad others didn't follow through with the instructions, and what a find these 8 did. Really deserving sir.

Ohw I did not think it was this easy! I really thought a trea with a knot, or the nice bit of polished knots which form objects. Hahaha I made it much to difficult. Congratulations to all! there were some real nice things again :-) And next time I am in again.

And the example you did is great! It gives us the lesson that we should first learn then act according to the giving condition.

Thanks a lot @kus-knee, lovely contest, really happy to have participated!
Congratulation to all partecipants and to @netcy for winning!
What amazing example of burl!!! Bravissima!!

I imagine the frustration you must have felt answering all ten questions:P
Nice story @kus-knee
And of course congratulations to all winners

Wow great post dear & amazing photo i like it..keep up it

So we should read the whole question paper first before start writing @kus-knee

Congratulations to the winners! Thank you for another great contest @kus-knee!

Congratulations for the winner,i am unlucky this time also.

I must start watching for the contest. They look like so much fun. At least I caught the winners some of those are truly amazing.
I had a teacher like that. With her it wasn't read all questions, it was read instructions before starting. She would pull that exact trick now and then. It worked to this day I read directions most of the time anyway lol

I misses it :( congratulations all the winners !

Eres un maestro muy malo jajaja. Buena lección.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks friend @ kus-knee for selecting my entry. He is absolutely right with his anecdote, we must read the instructions, coincidentally this week something similar happened to me, and openmic was my teacher because I recorded a song and forgot to identify the user, which is something new in the rules, these are things that should not happen, we should read the rules, greetings brother.

Well experience is definitely a great teacher... Usually mean teachers leave a very memorable & significant moment on our lives and they often teach harsh yet valuable lessons...
