Trees throughout the forest - Infrared Photography

in treetuesday •  5 years ago  (edited)

Walking through the forests in the morning take on a special quality. The smell of the sap when the morning sun hits the tree bark and release the resin smell of the trees is better than any air freshener made. And the mornings are a little cooler so its more enjoyable walking around without sweating too much.

These photos are my posts for #treetuesday

A creek snakes its way through the forest, some trees growing right on the edge of the water. Many plants grow under these large trees, like ferns and other smaller foilage.

A closer look at the ground cover there are some tree saplings and ferns growing about the area.

The ground cover surround the tree growing anywhere they can. The bark of the tree is missing part of it, wonder how that occured.

Water levels were pretty low in the creek, I could walk across it on stones and bare areas.

Some trees were leaning over, this pine was hanging over the creek, getting more light from where there is an open areas for the light to come through.

The dense trees make other foliage really have quite the time competing for light and resources. Luckily we usually get alot of rain, though recently we have been in a drought. Otherwise the trees just have to compete for the sunlight coming through the tree canopies.

I take pictures with a special camera. Its a Mirrorless DSLR that has been modified by Life Pixel to see light in other wavelengths. This allows my camera to see light in the Infrared [IR] around 1300 NM wavelength, through the visual spectrum and into the Ultraviolet A and B wavelengths roughly into the 300 NM wavelength.

I carry many filters on me to make the photos you see in my blog, these filters screw on my lens and help me isolate certain wavelengths for certain scenes. These filters can be IR / UV pass-through filters to assist me get a natural photo taking out the UV and IR light. Or I may use a Infrared pass-through filter capture just IR light. I can do the same with UV light as well, though I need some better filters which they can cost a few hundred dollars for true Ultraviolet pass through filters. So for right now I have B + W 403 bandpass filters that still allow some IR light in, due to their cheaper material.

There are also exotic glasses made of sapphire and germanium I am open to working with to replace my silica glass hot mirror with a material that allows even longer wavelengths of infrared to enter my cameras sensor. Special sensors, lenses and filters of that material would be needed as well, so it would be a big project but one that may give some even more unique photography results.

The infrared camera makes it look much cooler than I'm sure it was. Of course, I might be projecting because it's really cold here this morning. Those are gorgeous photos!

@goat-girlz has that frosty look for sure. Haha well I assure you it was in the 70s here at the time. Hope we get some cold in the South soon.
