Mystery Tree and Mystery Thing

in treetuesday •  6 years ago

I found this tree last summer, on July 28th and walked closer to look at the leaves to see what kind of tree this was, but I still didn't know.

Then I looked up and saw something in the tree. I didn't know what that was either.

Zoomed in but that didn't help.

I spent countless hours researching the tree and the "thing" that was in the tree, and I still don't have any answers. I came up blank on the tree and the closest I could get to the "thing" was a cut worm, but I don't think that is what it is. I went back to the tree three weeks later on Aug. 21st to get another look. That "thing" was still in the tree and it was larger. Not knowing what kind of tree it is, I can't research any diseases it may get.

So, this is a mystery post. If you have any answers, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks for stopping by!

These species of Trees often suffer from Fungal diseases, which will cause them to rot. They are not immune.
They are family of Cupressaceae Trees.

Thanks so much for solving the mystery @bullionstackers! I just checked your information and you are correct. And here I thought the fungus was a worm. LOL! Sending you 1-Steem now. : )

Looks like some type of Arborvitae tree, maybe a Thuja aka white cedar...

Thanks so much for solving the mystery @old-guy-photos. I will be tipping your tree post. : )

Looks like you got the answer! It is a lovely tree and thanks for #lookingup

I sure did and now I can rest my brain. LOL!

WOW! The tree is so huge and beautiful with bright green leaves!

The "thing" that you found on the tree is amazing. Mystery is still mystery, as I don't know either what it is..... Ha ha! ;D

But, I always admire you that you always keep noticing and try to research most of the things that you found.... That's really great about you! ;)

Yay! I got a big WOW from you! Thanks sis! : )
The tree was so big I couldn't get it all in the photo and yes, I also love those nice green leaves.
Aw, what a nice compliment. I spent countless hours on trying to figure out the name of the tree and that "thing," and I was so frustrated that I couldn't find the answers. It only took a few minutes for others to give me the answers. But at least I know now, thanks to them. : )

You are much welcome, my dear sis! ;)

Red cedar tree... ball in tree is an Apple-Cedar rust

Thanks Mike! From what others posted here I did find out what kind of tree it is and that it had a fungus. Now, thanks to you I know the name of the fungus. : )
