BEECH BUZZ CUT

in treewednesday •  5 years ago

Beech tree growing over my driveway finally got the haircut it needed. I bought a pole chain saw for this tree particularly as well as the rest that need trimming.

Before the trimming

The branches were growing over the electric wires feeding the house. I should have trimmed the tree earlier but I'm a naturalist and like to see nature free and wild. But nature was getting too close for comfort....

Got my next store neighbor to help me. Used his pickup truck to stand on to reach higher up and also be insulated from electric shock in case the worst happened.

Now you can see the electric wires.

Before
The tree is a bit special since I planted it when I first got here 40 years ago. I had dug up two Beech saplings and planted them in the back of the property. When I saw they weren't getting enough light I moved them to the front. There are two trees in there about 25 feet apart. The one by the driveway I planted second and added leaf debris and horse manure to the planting hole. It took off real strong.

These trees can live ten times the age it is now 400 + years. The house will have to be moved by then :-)....

The American Beech, Fagus grandifolia is a magnificant tree growing over 100 feet high with smooth silver gray bark with deep colored green leaves. Only weakness is it's shallow roots but it does put down many.

Wow amazing how those tree's have grown so much over the years you have been there.

All that good CO2 food in the air does the trick...

Should I call this a sanitation picture or a trimming picture but either of them, the trees are beautiful and make the house appealing but just need a little branch trimming. Nice shot.

Thanks @naijaboost

Hey @manorvillemike, here is a bit BEER for you. Enjoy it!

I love going home and seeing some of the 300+ trees I planted on my property over 30' tall now...... Will post about them eventually.

Here is a security cam shot of my gate. And a Wild Turkey. Those Cedar that line my fence. I put those in the ground in 1999-2000. Close to 100 of em around property line.

That is so cool... I bought an over grown field 1-1/2 acres and planted over 800 White pines to make a pine grove.. in 1976...

That was a lot of work for you. Those extending chainsaws are the best. My neighbor has one and that has come in very handy. Great job trimming your beautiful tree back.

I can't imagine how big it might get in another 40 years and then 160 years.

You will have to look at them from the other side to keep an eye on them. :-)

Wouldn't that be nice, but I don'y think I would like what I see in the future, I am a pessimist at heart...
