Makalu Base Camp

We are planning to goto Makalu BaseCamp on 4th of April , its gonna be a 15 days trek

Makalu Base Camp refers to the base camp for climbers and trekkers situated at the foot of Mount Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world at 8,485 meters (27,838 ft) above sea level. Located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km southeast of Mount Everest, on the border between Nepal and China, Makalu is one of the eight-thousanders, and its base camp is a popular destination for adventurous trekkers and mountaineers.

The trek to Makalu Base Camp is considered one of the more challenging and less frequented treks in Nepal, offering an exceptional experience of natural beauty, including high-altitude terrains, lush rhododendron forests, and rugged landscapes. The journey takes trekkers through the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area, which is known for its rich biodiversity and stunning scenery.

Trekking Route and Duration:
The classic route to Makalu Base Camp typically starts from Tumlingtar in the Sankhuwasabha district, accessible by a short flight from Kathmandu. From Tumlingtar, trekkers proceed to Chichila by jeep, which is the actual starting point of the trek. The journey to Makalu Base Camp and back usually takes around 16 to 22 days, depending on the itinerary, pace, and weather conditions.

Best Time to Visit:
The best times to embark on the Makalu Base Camp trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is more stable, and the visibility is clear.

Preparation and Permits:
Due to the trek's challenging nature, good physical fitness and proper acclimatization are essential. Trekkers must also obtain necessary permits, including the Makalu Barun National Park entry permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management Systems) card. It's advisable to organize the trek through a registered trekking agency in Nepal that will handle the logistics, permits, and guide services.
