Shooting in Jacksonville Florida

Two people were killed and 10 injured from a shooting at a gamers tournament in Jacksonville Florida.

I wrote an article during my first two months on steemit. Talking about gun
violence and the need for better protections against guns getting into the
wrong hands.

The reality is that we live in a very violent society. I was in the military
for 5 years and I know how to use a firearm and I understand the
responsibility that comes along with handling a device that can ultimately take
someones life.

Trump Says that teachers should be trained on the use of firearms and they
should be allowed to carry them in schools. Personally I would not allow my
child to attend any school where teachers carried guns.

School and public mass shootings:

2017 was deemed the deadliest year for mass shootings in modern US history.
According to Gun Violence archive a nonprofit organization there have been
345 mass shootings in America in 2017. The numbers tell the story, and as
these numbers grow it shows that we are growing into a society that lives in
fear. The environment has changed in many way from going on to an airplane
and having to take of your shoes to walking into an office building and not
being given access unless you can provide a drivers license. Most people
would say this is the norm but things were not always this way. The extra
security is a sign of the times and the environment changing into a more
fearful one. People purchase guns because they are afraid.

Stand your ground law has been used in two popular scenarios 1. Travon
Martin shot by a security guard George Zimmerman (George Zimmerman went to
trial and was deemed not guilty) . 2. Michael Drejka shot Markeis McGlockton
in a store shopping parking lot. Markeis shoved Michael to the ground after
Michael was involved in a verbal altercation with Markeis girlfriend over
the couple parking in a handicapped parking lot. As Markeis backed up
Michael shot Markeis and he died a short time later.

The sherriff originally ruled that Michael was protected under the stand
your ground Law, but after backlash from civil rights leaders, and the
community the prosecutor charged Michael with manslaughter and he is now in
jail awaiting trial.

Murders in florid have climbed 22% since the stand your ground law was
enacted 10 years ago.

Before the law took effect in October 2005, Florid residents had the right
to use lethal force if they felt that there life was in danger by an
intruder. The stand your ground law extended this right beyond the home.
