Guinness World Records said the exact figure was "virtually impossible to pin down" because the calculation was based on Forbes estimates, the report said. It also said other sources with higher estimates of Musk's fortune suggested his losses could be closer to $200 billion. The Twitter company owner took over the unfortunate title from Japanese technology investor Masayoshi Son. In 2000, Masayoshi Son set the previous record for losses of $58.6 billion. The report pointed out that this also caused Musk to lose his status as the world's richest man, and he handed over the baton to Bernard Arnault, founder of the luxury multinational Louis Vuitton Group.
