Woman raises thousands to help a homeless man who spent his last $20 to buy her gas

Kate McClure was en route to Philadelphia when she met Johnny Bobbitt Jr.

McClure came up short on gas while driving on I-95 a month ago. She halted at the closest off-ramp, her heart beating as she escaped the auto to discover a corner store, she said.

At that point she met Bobbitt, who was perched in favor of the street close to the off-ramp holding a sign.

"He saw me pull over and knew something wasn't right," McClure reviewed. "He instructed me to get back in the auto and bolt the entryways."

McClure said Bobbitt strolled to a service station and returned with a can loaded with gas. He had burned through $20 - the main cash he had - to get it.

McClure chose to give back, so she began a GoFundMe battle around two weeks prior to fund-raise to enable Bobbitt to get recovered. She had planned to raise $10,000 to pay for a flat, a vehicle and different costs for the following four to a half year.

She has raised more than $269,000 as of Thursday evening.

The Washington Post was not able achieve McClure on Thursday, yet she discussed her shot meeting with Bobbitt on the GoFundMe page.

"Johnny did not approach me for a dollar, and I couldn't reimburse him right then and there in light of the fact that I didn't have any money," she composed.

She said she has been driving back to Bobbitt's spot in the course of recent weeks, giving him a couple of dollars inevitably. She likewise reimbursed him, gave him a coat, gloves, a cap and socks.
