Priya Prakash Varrier, internet's latest sensation, is in more trouble after a local organisation from Maharashtra lodged a police complaint against Malayalam actress and Oru Adaar Love director Omar Lulu for allegedly hurting sentiments of the Muslim community through a song. This complaint was filed at Jinsi police station by a group of people under the aegis of Janjagran Samithi but, the police is yet to register an FIR. In its complaint, the group has alleged the director and actress of hurting the group's religious sentiments deliberately.

"This is a deliberate effort to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims. We demand that a case under IPC section 295 of the IPC should be registered against actress Priya Varrier, director Omar Lulu and producers of the film," Samithi president Mohsin Ahmed said. IPC Section 295 pertains to injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class.

The news was confirmed by the Jinsi police station Inspector Faheem Hashmi who said that the matter will be taken to senior officers. "We have received a complaint stating that the religious feelings of a particular community are hurt. We would bring it to the notice of senior officers and act according to their directions," he said.

This news comes one day after Hyderabad Police had registered a case against the film director on a complaint that the song "Manikya Malaraya poovi" in the film written and directed by Lulu had an "objectionable" reference to Prophet Muhammad's wife.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's Raza Academy has also written a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), asking it to block the video of the song as it hurts the religious sentiments of Muslims.

However, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has lent his support for the song by saying that intolerance towards the free expression of art and thought cannot be accepted. "In this matter, if anybody suspects that Hindu and Muslim fundamentalists were hand in glove, they cannot be blamed," he said.

The teaser of the song had gone viral, turning Priya Prakash Varrier in an overnight internet sensation.
