Vivo has launched a new lower mid-tier phone, the Vivo Y81, in India at a price of Rs 12,999. The Vivo Y81 is now available for buying in India in black and gold from Vivo's own online store, Flipkart and Amazon India. At its price, the Vivo Y81 will compete with phones like the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Much like any other new-age Vivo phone, the Vivo Y81 also comes with an iPhone X-style notch up-front and an unusual aspect ratio of 19:9. The phone comes with a 6.22-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a 1520×720 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor clubbed with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which is further expandable by up to 256GB via a dedicated micro-SD card slot. The dual-SIM phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based FunTouch OS 4.0.
On the optics front, the Vivo Y81 comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. On the front, the Vivo Y81 comes with a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and screen flash. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of shooting software-assisted portrait shots.
The Vivo Y81 is further backed by a 3,260mAh battery and charges over micro-USB.
Vivo has been very busy off-late. The brand has been launching both budget as well as premium phones in India, by the dozen. The company, only recently, launched its top-tier Vivo Nex phone in India that brings a one-of-its-kind pop-out selfie cam experience to the masses. The phone also ships with top-of-the-line hardware including an in-display fingerprint scanner. Prior to launching the Nex, Vivo had also launched the futuristic X21 in India which was the first phone in the country to pack an in-display fingerprint scanner. Among other things.
The Y81, although it is a lower mid-tier phone, brings an iPhone X-style notch to the masses. It is, in fact, one of the few phones in the Indian market right now to ship with such a feature. But, it will have some stiff competition, particularly from Xiaomi and Asus, and even from Oppo's Realme to an extent.
