For The First Time...A SHORT STORY

It was a little late in the evening and I was in a cab heading down Marian road, the usaul stop and pick attitude of the cabbie was getting annoying coupled with a fine girl sitting by my side, as if that was not uncomfortable enough she was trying to hold her her phone with both hands so she can chat with whoever and with a person joining the three of us at the back seat i thought she'd be wise enough to put down the phone at least for the transit.

My mind drifted a bit to my friend Steve who had attempted jumping off the Marian pedestrian bridge only for the intervention of passer bys who took him home. And today he just called that I should hurry over to meet someone that he is sure can talk to Jane his bae that just left him for another guy, the reason for his attempted suicide.
I was almost lost in though and passed my junction only for me to jump back to life as someone nearly hit the driver as he stopped abruptly in front of him, the exchange of curses between them awoke my consciousness it was time to alight the cab.

Steve was already in front of his house waiting for me when I got there, he lamented how his bae of 3 tears just left him for a guy she just met-a story I have heard a dozen time over the past days since the incidence, then the person we were waiting for emerged from the corner a beautiful petite, I was carried away at the sight of her, and to be honest I had never really talked to a girl longer than 30 minutes before now, but Steve had to leave us after asking me to show Eve the damsel the chat I and Jane had had where she told me she's not coming back to him. We were suppose to plead his case.

But we all knew it was a lost battle so before long we started talking and this time not about Steve or his issues but about us and we loved it. Before long we had to leave and for the first time I was a gentle man I dropped her off at home, for the first time she gave me her number without me asking, before long we had our own date for the first time.

We may appear selfish but Steve has moved on and so we moved on too but together.
