I dont think that people will give up gold or silver. Its still a really good long-term investment. I mean long, long term. Even safer than crypto. Crypto is here and now. By that I mean that predictions can not be further than 2 years, because the market is changing literally every day. Bitcoin could go down in the next years. By years I mean 3-5 years. Why? Because today there are so many new coins rising, with new ideas how to use the blockchain, and the blockchain will be improved by time. So basically what I am saying is that, there will be thousands of new coins, which will be more popular than a lot of today's top crypto coins.

xrp tokens will not be used to transfer value they are just ledgers that will be communicating in the network

I agree with you that it is a scary idea that we are experiencing this kind of growth, but honestly there is more to come. We truly are in the beginning stages of what will be an influx of interest into the crypto world. Media attention has not come yet, its slowly starting to trickle in.
