Tribalism is biological.

No amount of talking to a “Liberal” will change their mind, because they are just trying to stay in good standing with their tribe. We all do it.

This phenomenon is so powerful that psychologists have found that 90% of test subjects will say that the longer of two sticks is the shorter one, if ten people say so before them. This is even though they can hold the sticks in their own hands. Only ten percent of people are even trying to figure things out for themselves.

Most people are very quick to change their opinions to suit the latest guidelines. They do it without even weighing the evidence. I have seen coworkers literally deny what they said the day before, without any conflict, if the boss presents a different version of the facts.

When people pose questions to us, they set up a framework for the response that is difficult to overcome on the spot. Only later do we realize that the question impeded our response.

This is how all people function. Some are better at wrestling against the groupthink than others, but we all get caught up in it.

We tend to go along with what our group thinks in a supportive manor.

We are tribal. This is biological. It helped our ancestors survive by not getting banished. Our American culture was more open to new ideas in many ways after WWII, especially during and after Vietnam. (But, we now know that this was also orchestrated.)

It used to be that we could express our opinions more freely, even if they were controversial, in public, if not at Thanksgiving, but not anymore.

Dissent is not allowed anymore, and 90% of people are falling right in line, even while they call themselves Liberals or Christians or whatever.
