"Bolos Kano" is a Maranao Term which means "Welcome".
I'm half Meranao Tribe (Maranao) and half Visayan Tribe (Bisaya) of the Philippines. We Maranaos are part of the wider Moro ethnic group and one of the Muslim Tribes of the Philippines. Maranao means "People of the Lake" because most of Maranaos living near in the Lake Lanao or we called it "Ranao" means "Lake". Sometimes they called us a "Moro" is a term for Muslim tribes who lived in the Southern Philippines. We Maranaos are located at the Southern Philippines in the Mindanao Island particularly in the Province of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte. We are using our own Maranao Dialect, for example "Mapiya Kapipita" means "Good Morning".
Our ancestors also defend our land and religion from the colonizer like Spanish, American and Japanese. The Mindanao Island never controlled by the colonizer because of our brave and strong Muslim Tribes in the Mindanao like Tausug Tribe, Maranao Tribe, Maguindanaon Tribe and more. There's so many battles or wars happened in the Mindanao Island particularly in Lanao del Sur against the colonizer but sad to say only few Historian Author wrote it down to our Philippine History.
Sarimanok is our legendary bird that is a ubiquitous symbol of our art. It is depicted as a Hoodhud (Arabic) with colorful wings and feathered tail, holding a fish on its beak or talons. The head of Sarimanok is like the head of a Hoopoe (Balalatoc in Maranao) and is profusely decorated with scroll, leaf and spiral motifs. It is a symbol of good fortune.
Kulintang is one of music instruments of my tribe especially the Muslim Tribes in the Philippines and even the non-Muslim groups of the Southern Philippines.
If I don't wrong they said Bicolano loves spicy foods but they don't know that we Maranaos we loves a spicy foods too because most of our cuisines are made of spicy. Palapa is made of stewed scallion bulbs or “sakurab” in Maranao. Thinly sliced scallion bulbs and ginger are caramelized by slow cooking and mixed with chilies and coconut oil.
Pindiyalokan/Piaparan a Manok (Chicken Piaparan) is one of my Maranao dishes. Yummy!!!
Have you tried to eat our Dodol? Dodol is one of my favorite Maranao delicacies. It made from sticky rice flour, coconut milk and sugar or traditional raw sugar from sugarcane. Others add Durian to make it more delicious. Sometimes we served it during Ramadan in the Iftar time and mostly it served during celebrations like weddings and thanksgivings. You can buy a Dodol to the price of 10 to 300 pesos (it depends on the size).
You must be so proud to be in such a beautiful place!😍
