Tribe Tags; Use or Abuse?

in tribes •  5 years ago  (edited)

I mentioned this topic briefly during the last post about Scot-Tribe tags, but would like to ask the people what they think?

My last post included ELEVEN tags. Why so many you say?

Because http://www.busy.org has lifted its limits; as to how many I can’t tell you but it’s MORE than ELEVEN.

I want to defend my use of this ‘ridiculous’ amount of tags, so keep reading.

Times are Changing, who uses FIVE now?

This is easy to answer. Anyone who uses www.steemit.com to post is who.

The original STEEM based dApp still restricts the poster to FIVE, and so FIVE is all you can use. I hear SteemPeak allows more, Tasteem now also allows more.

Things are changing behind the scenes and but some posters are still not using ANY of the tribe tags.

Here are the tags I used, so Judge me

  • #tennis - The theme of my post was Tennis. Since the realisation that you can use a LOT MORE tags than previously, I always make sure tag #1 is very relevant to the topic.

  • #sportstalk – You can argue with me that Tennis is NOT a sport, but few will agree.

  • #palnet – PAL has been confirmed as a generic Scot-Tribe tag. Tell me otherwise.

  • #teenagers – My 15 year old daughter is a topic within the content. An old fashioned tag. This will please the old crew.

  • #neoxian - Neoxian has been confirmed as a generic Scot-Tribe tag. I also have almost 1900 NEOXAG having invested some STEEM into this token. Yes I am going to use #neoxian on EVERY post.

  • #zzan – SteemZang tokens are mostly for the Korean market, but just like Neoxian I have bought some and want to make use of my stake. This is another generic token not requiring a specific theme. My stake in ZZAN is 565 ZZAN. Not as much as some others. Call it an experiment.

  • #marlians - @surpassinggoogle’s baby was not airdropped, at least not to me but again I have bought some at just under 1200. Of course I’m going to use the tag, I have a stake in it. MARLIANS is a generic theme, no specific theme required.

  • #mediaofficials – This one is a bit of mystery but I currently have a buy order in for 4600 of these. From what I can gather it is a generic theme again, so can be used on any post.

  • #busy – We all know about #busy and why it’s used. Nothing new here.

  • #creativecoin – This is question mark, and I have asked on several occasions whether what I produce should use this tag. So far, it’s been YES. I have 3800 CCC’s having bought quite a few. This is probably the most interesting token of the bunch and as at least one of the moderators has voted this post I feel it qualifies.

  • #dickheads – Yes well, read my post and you will see why this fits perfectly.

Tags I didn’t use for 'that' post were :

Are there any more? Probably but I don't have a stake in them if there are.

If I would have used ANY of these for my post then that would be abuse in my opinion. This is where I would draw the line.

If I'm wrong about the theme's of any of these tribes and when they should be used (or not), feel free to correct me.

Any tokens that allow the delegation option are fully delegated to the @slobberchops.tri account that follows my votes but at 200% the weight using the features in steemrewarding.com, a great utility created by @holger80.

Agree with me or not, I think I am using the tags correctly. I have invested in ALL of the ones I use (and some of the ones I haven’t), and will use them appropriately.

Well, as I said last time I have no problem with people using loads of tags as long as they are relevant.

i strongly object to the way the creative tag is used. So much so that it stops me buying of the tokens. I would really love this tag if it was truly creative content.

Fiction counts as far as I'm concerned but not writing about our lives. There are so many posts like that. It's not distinctive enough.

And even worse is all the abuse I've seen where it's on loads of Splinterlands giveaway posts for example.

I don't usually mind about this stuff but I'm really disappointed in how the creative tag has turned out so far. 😢

Have you been looking at the creative coin frontend? Many of the posts you see using the tag on the other frontends have been muted for tag abuse. The curators are constantly monitoring the tag but it's an endless task.

Writing about our lives is creative nonfiction also known as personal essays. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is in this category along with the majority of the essays of Virginia Woolf. There are elements which distinguish them from nonfiction.

Have you been looking at the creative coin frontend?

I haven't no. I've just been seeing the ones that come up in my feed or in the giveaways. I can see how the monitoring would be an endless task though.

Fiction counts as far as I'm concerned but not writing about our lives.

How about my life chronicle's from the 90's, those could be termed, 'writing about our lives'. This is the reason I have brought this subject up several times, in the discord channel too.

Splinterlands giveaway posts for example.

That, I can agree with you.

making it too broad is counter-productive

exactly 😁

Hope we are not becoming crazy here with all the tribes around...

Who knows how many more are coming? The tide seems to have slowed, but probably not stopped.

I will have to set up that rewarding thing to increase the percentage of mine!

You could do a combined like me or go all out like @abh1235 and make loads of accounts, one for each tribe. His way is better and more efficient but more donkey work.

I'm thinking combined, I don't have time for anything else!

More to think about. Again you make a point that needs to be made.

most of your posts come under the area of creative nonfiction in that you generally write in a story like manner and your content is personal and true. I wrote a recent post with the basics of the idea.

I'm still struggling in some cases whether to use the tag or not. I'll have a look at your post and opinions on it, thanks.

Thanks for this rundown of all the tags. It is just what I needed. Also, thanks for the help the other day. I am going to have to switch back to using Busy to write my posts I think.

thanks for the help the other day.

Your welcome, there's more tribes than the ones I mention, but I don't use them. I may just focus on 2 or 3 and drop the rest. Haven't decided yet.

I think if you have the coins and the tags are relevant why not go for it, I have been a bit slack but this post just reminded me to add a couple of tags to my actifit post I will be posting shortly

What is the value in having so many generic tribe tags? Are you just hoping to get in on those what pay off?

Some are going to make it and some not. I could say why use the palnet tag as that one is also generic?

If you use one, why not use many. If nobody used any of the other generic ones, would those projects die?

I prefer the specific themed ones to be honest, we are missing some.. such as #travel.

I'm not making much from palnet, but I'll take it anyway. I don't think I have much of the others. There's going to be a lot of competition for the rewards.

Maybe we need a tribe tag for posting about tribes ;)
