Tonight I bring you another article about a new technology, my understanding of it, and how it can build a future of abundance for humanity.
Imagine if you could travel from Los Angeles to New York in less than 5 hours! The hyperloop one team may be making that a reality in the near future. The hyperloop is a train that will be able to travel at speeds up to 600mph or 1080 kilometers per hour. How will they achieve this? In two major ways, number 1 being evacuating the tube the train travels in of air. Lacking the air resistance the train can travel at higher speeds without expending a huge amount of energy. Number 2 is through a unique propulsion system design described below.
From the FAQ on their website:
Virgin Hyperloop One vehicles are propelled using a linear electric motor, which is a straightened-out version of a conventional rotary motor. A conventional electric motor has two primary parts: a stator (the part that stays still) and a rotor (the part that moves or rotates). When voltage is applied to the stator it makes the rotor spin and do the work of, say, spinning a power drill. A proprietary linear electric motor has the same two main parts, however, the rotor doesn’t rotate but instead moves in a straight line along the length of the stator. In the Virgin Hyperloop One system, the stators are mounted to the tube, the rotor is mounted to the pod, and the pod straddles the stators as it accelerates down the tube.
There are also developments of a cargo pod version of the hyperloop to help move goods around the world. The goal is to have operational systems in 2020. This is a lofty goal, but I think its achievable as they have already had successful testing. I believe the main hurdle will be getting the governments out of the way to allow the development of the specific projects. It will be really interesting to see how this develops, and if the government throws red tape at them. This system might cut into the profit margin of someone important, you know. Our messed up government likes protecting the status quo instead of promoting innovation.
