The 4th of July is about celebrating the founding of the greatest country on earth, but it is also about remembering the history, good and bad. The US has had a bad time with presidents and policies for the past 30-40 years (luckily with trump that is changing). The 4th of july is not about celebrating politicians and their policies, or the state, but it's about celebrating the fact that the American people freed themselves from the grasp of such things. Even if that may not be true today, the celebration promotes conservatism among citizens, making it an important event.
