Trieste - the Piazza Unita´ d´Italia

In my town, Trieste, the main town square , named Piazza Unita dÍtalia is one of the largest square next to the sea in the world and actually is becoming a very popular touristic attraction, after many years of maintenance and restructuring.

The square is large cca 13.000 m2 and represents the main square in Trieste Built during the Austrian -Hungarian Empire to celebrate military victories and official ceremonies, the square was renamed as the Square of Unity of Italy after Trieste was annexed to Italy, but still continues to be an important venue for military parades and also concert of famous rock bands, like Iron Maiden in 2016.

The main and central building is the Comune di Trieste (Municipal building), built in 1875 on the project of architect Giuseppe Bruni. On the top of the building, there is the main attraction, the clock tower, with two clock tower´s clerks, named Micheze e Jacheze, which are the symbols of the whole square.

The second very large and important building on the square is the Palazzo del Governo and today is a government building with limited access for visitors, but still very impressive

Next to the government palace there is the Caffe degli Specchi, a historical cafe bar, where time, fragrances and aroma are still from the 1900.
