Today in Colombia we ascended Monserrate, walked down and explored the La Candelaria district in Bogota. It was sunny which isn't typical for an April day so we're lucky. After 17km of walking, it's time a siesta a cervesa are long over due too. Look at my first impression of Colombia post here
La Candelaria is the historic area of Bogota, there are many alleys to explore which are filled with art, graffiti(more on that later) and cafés. There is so much to see and it's all built up and down hills so wear good shoes. You could easily spend a week here but it's our last full day so we made the most of it.
I'm sure you get the ideas from the photos that this city is fantastic and exploding with culture. There are cobble stone streets, amazing architecture and plenty of colour.
The view from Monserrate was breathtaking. It's 3152 Meters above sea level so the air is a little thin. There's a chaple up there that's a few hundred years old which makes me wonder about the devotion it would take to carry up all those building materials.
Walking down was a little rough on the legs, it's about 500 meters of rocky stairs to get back to the city. Totally worth saving a $2 cable car ride. There were some great views though and at the bottom is the house of none other than...Simon Bolivar, the first president of Colombia.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog about Bogota. There was really too much to capture in one story. Despite what people say if the weather is decent go up Monserrate, we went early to avoid lines. Also explore La Candelaria; Bogota is relatively safe, just watch your step and look out for cars.

Yes charming indeed. It's a hub for much of South America. Highly recommend a layover here instead of flying direct.

Thanks Ackza, I'm sure there are a few people from Bogota on Steemit. It's also a travel hub for S.A.
