The CornerStone and the Juniper Tree of Wontong-Jeon of Chiljangsa Temple, Anseong CitysteemCreated with Sketch.

The cornerstone is the important object when I looked around the Buddhist temples, because, unlike the wooden part, the cornerstone tells its history sometimes.

The cornerstones of Wontong-Jeon Hall were very well crafted comparing to that of Daewung-Jeon of this temple, Chiljanasa temple. The cornerstones of Daewung-Jeon were typical style of the mid-term Chosun Dynasty.

It seemed that the cornerstones of Wontong-Jeon were mixed with different types in carving stones. Some of the cornerstones looked like to be made after the Japanese invasion in the late 16 century. This explained that Wontong-Jeon was built with a mixed architectural style between Goryeo and Chosun dynasty.

My mom told me to photograph the juniper tree in front of Wontong-Jeon. Its twisted body was impressive to her. I took several shots of the juniper tree. It had its own beauty. Beauty is hidden in our mind. When we have an open mind, then we could find out the beauty elsewhere.

It was very clever to use cornerstones in the past to stabilise the buildings with the help of cornerstone, it is like foundation where the buildings is build but also it looks very attractive, obviously many nations have had the same idea.

As to the Jupiter tree, the shape is really very unusual, I will not be surprise to see the tree in her future works :)

👌👌👌

I've never given importance to a cornerstone not realizing it reveals the building's history. Thank you for making me aware.
