If you look at any of the great achievers of our time, they all were obsessed with a small number of things. Some were obsessed with just 1 thing.
Some may say that it’s not a good life to live if you’re just obsessed with a few things. Most people will probably say that you should do everything in moderation - even the things you love.
I’m all about moderation, especially when it comes to things like eating desserts and other unhealthy, but desirable treats.
When it comes to a true passion though, I get a bit of a different attitude. I feel like passion is just such a rare and amazing feeling that you should embrace it when you truly find it.
Can you have a “negative” passion?
Some have a passion for things like video games or food or alchohol (wine, namely). Isn’t moderation better for these type of passions?
I think a special kind of moderation applies to these. It’s a kind of moderation that I’ll refer to as “dependent moderation”. The reason why is because these passions carry certain costs with them.
If you drink too much wine, you could become an alchoholic.
If you binge eat because you love food too much and want to try everything, then you’ll be unhealthy.
If you play video games all day, you may get little else done, you may lack vitamin d, you may even hurt your eye sight.
But that doesn’t mean you should give up these passions or even necessarily lessen the time you spend on them. It just means that you need some self-awareness.
You need to be self-aware to the signs that you’re doing too much of those things and not enough of other things that need to get done.
If you start feeling tired and sluggish after several days of binge gaming, then take some extra time to go outside and get some fresh air and exercise.
If you feel like you’ve been drinking yourself drunk each night because you’re tasting all kinds of wine, then take a little break from wine drinking and read a book about wine or just do something completely different to balance your life out.
If you start to gain weight but want to keep pursuing your passion for food, then you should just exercise and slow down on eating huge portions. Balance our life out.
Balance and self-awareness will keep your life and passions on the right path!

I find that that's not always true... If you learn broadly then you can apply it to everything else you try to learn. Everything interweaves in my opinion!
