D.C.Booth National Historic Fish Hatchery in Spearfish, SD was estalished in 1896 to raise trout for the (then) trout-free waters of the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Although the hatchery no longer raises trout from eggs - we now raise trout from fingerlings raised in other national fish hatcheries (Ennis NFH in Montana) to stock tribal waters here in SD and Montana. Yesterday afternoon a shipment of several thousand young Rainbow Trout were delivered to their new home for the next year.
