So the United States has President Elect Trump. Some people are delighted. Some are in the pits of despair. Both reactions, I would suggest, are equally wrong.
The US Constitution was signed in 1787. Sine that time there have been some truly outstanding presidents. And some truly awful ones (Nixon springs to mind). But you know what? The United States has not only survived. It has flourished.
That is because the US has a robust political system. How else would it have survived over 200 years? It also has a great collection of people. It is a great nation. I say this as an admirer from the United Kingdom.
So calm down dears. It is only an election. The sun will still come up tomorrow, and each day that follows. Life will go on. I hope President Trump will not be protectionist, will favour free trade, and will be a good friend to Britain. But even if he isn't and doesn't, you know what? Four years will pass.
" the US has a robust political system" ... "So calm down dears."
That political system relies on people not being calm when it is appropriate. These protests aren't going to stop Trump from becoming president but they do send a message that over half the country disapproves.
Let them be mad, let them protest. It's fantastic to see Americans wake up and becoming politically active.
Staying calm for 4 years while you wait for another chance isn't the way the great system works. As long as it stays non-violent these people being mad and taking to the streets in protest is exactly how they stay a great nation.

As you say, people marching through the streets isn't going to change anything. It just gets people worked up for no purpose that I can see.
The message I was trying to give (and maybe it wasn't clear) is that politics isn't the be all and end all of life. Sure, these issues are important. But life goes on. A sense of perspective is what is needed.
