I have read the indictment of Trump - and it looks pretty strong!

In particular, they have lots of evidence that 1) The files were in fact classified, 2) Trump knew they were (they even have recordings of him saying so), 3) Trump deliberately tried to withhold them, and 4) the classified information (at least some of it) was actually important (e.g. - war plans).

There's no creative legal theory involved. All pretty straightforward.

If a low-level federal employee had done the same thing, they would have thrown the book at him. Especially if the underling (like Trump and Richard Nixon before him) left helpful recordings documenting his criminality. A much better case than the dubious NY prosecution, which involves both much lesser offenses and more dubious legal theories that perhaps would not have been used against a less prominent defendant.

Don't take my word for it. Read the indictment yourself!

Perhaps Trump's lawyers have some kind of amazing evidence of their own to refute the charges. If so, let them present it in court.

I expect also that likely upcoming cases regarding attempts to overturn the election in Georgia and the events leading to Jan. 6 will feature more serious charges with comparably good evidence.

As for the argument that Biden did the same thing (re: classified documents), so far the evidence suggests 1) he did not take them deliberately, and 2) he turned them over as soon as it became clear he had them. But Biden is under investigation by a special counsel, too (Former Trump US attorney appointee Robert Hur). If it turns out his conduct was in fact similar to Trump's, then by all means indict him too! When it comes to Georgia and Jan. 6, of course, there is no Biden parallel - or any true historical parallel.

I was critical of the NY charges filed by Alvin Bragg. But special counsel Jack Smith is no Bragg, and these charges are not a convoluted attempt to turn a payoff to an ex-mistress into a campaign finance violation/technical state crime.
