Bible reading: The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

Nahum is a minor prophet, who wrote the book that bears his name at the time of the fall of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire. His book celebrates God's victory over the forces of evil and some of its themes, such as the reestablishment of the new Jerusalem, will later be taken up in the book of Revelation.
The book begins with a psalm celebrating the omnipotence of God; the creator of the universe is the source of good, a refuge in difficult times and the origin of true bliss in man: "The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.", Nahum 1:7

The prophet Nahum tells us that God is good, that is, he explains that God is wise; explained in another way, because God is wise loves with goodness, with kindness. This teaching is taken up by Jesus in Mark 10:18: "Only God is good". Men are good because they do good things, but God does good things because he is good, God is the source of good.
There are parts of this oracle of the prophet where he attributes passions to God, but this he does in a metaphorical way: "The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The LORD takes vengeance on his foes and vents his wrath against his enemies.", Nahum 1:2.
The uniqueness of God demands that he does not find passions, otherwise there would be two wills in God, one for passion and the other for reason. God is love without passion.
The prophet tells us that God also cares for those who trust him. It is important to explain that the concept of faith as explained in the New Testament does not exist in the Old Testament. We do not need to believe in God, he manifests himself through creation, through his works, that is why the bible speaks of trust in God and not faith: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.", Psalm 19:1.
